This Mourning Dove just outside my window was trying to soak up whatever warmth it could get from the late afternoon sun as the temperature hovered around 0 degrees F. X Vario

Karl, you're right. There are supposed to be two. Doves mate for life but this one either hasn't mated yet or has lost it's mate (they actually hunt them in this damn state). It's been hanging around our back garden by itself for several days.

Poor bereft and cold little birdie. Will it ever find a replacement mate or don't they do that?

Thanks, Dee. I actually don't know the answer. Maybe there's a bird expert out there who does. By the way, I keep a heated water source in my yard for the birds and the Mourning Doves are the only ones smart enough to sit around the edge of it during really cold weather in order to keep warm. The other birds just drink and fly off.
