I like the Summilux 75 a lot. But often to be on the save side I make two pictures of the same subject, one with f1.4 and one with f2.8 or f4.

Hi!

It is nice image!

I also like my M Lux 75 f1.4 v3 on my SL 601 and M10!

Ps: Focus of Lux 75 is fine by RF and more easier by Peaking LV on M10.

Focus of Lux 75 is the best with Peaking EVF on SL 601!

Thanks!

I love threads like this too. As someone not familiar with historical Leica lenses they are very interesting and informative.

I'd love to know what other out-of-production lenses are revered by the community. Perhaps we need a dedicated thread? Also which ones would you like to see Leica manufacture again?

Probably it's worth to wait for the Noctilux-M 1,25/75 which allegedly is announced for the end of 2017.

No, it isn't.

Yipee! However I'd say the 75mm Noctilux will cost a fortune. With the 50mm Notilux costing over €10,000 my money is on over €14,000 - no pun intended.

Hi!

I also like my M Lux 75 f1.4 v3 on my SL 601 and M10!

Focus of Lux 75 is fine by RF and more easier by EVF Visoflex 002 on M10.

Ps: The attached image is shooted by M10, EVF 002 and M Lux 75 at f1.4 for my wife!

Have a nice day!

Thanks!

i'll let my pictures do the talking and jot some thoughts on this lens as we go

1. 2221_L1025796_1.jpg

2. 2221_L1025787_1.jpg

3. 2221_L1040509Edit_1.jpg

4. 2221_L1040606Edit_1.jpg

The lens is heavy compared to the usual M mount lenses and is a little front heavy on my M9. The focus throw is long, like the Noctilux f1 version. It tends to flare. I like flare so i dont bother with the slide out hood on my copy. Good contrast and excellent micro contrast, even wide open.

Here are some examples of the micro contrast:

5. 2221_L1025784_1.jpg

6. 2221_L1025926_1.jpg

7. 2221_L1026003_1.jpg

8. 2221_L1025929_1.jpg

As you might have noticed by now, the bokeh wide open is quite different to the Noctilux f1 in terms that there are no "swirls" and in deference to the f1, the bokeh is "splotchy" ... think Monet, not van Gogh

what i mean is:

11. http://forum.mflenses.com/userpix/20125/2221_L1026379_1.jpg

The edge falloff is not half as strong as with the f1. Against bright surfaces it does show purple fringing but with the new LR capabilities, this is not a concern anymore

12. http://forum.mflenses.com/userpix/20125/2221_L1026617_1.jpg

And the tonal range is gorgeous for B&W work without being too contrasty so the latitude left for post processing is very flexible

My Jekyll does Hyde.

Stop it down a few notches and the 75 lux loses it's artsy cool composure and becomes bitingly sharp

I have the Heliar 75/2.5 LTM, the APO 75/2 ASPH and the 75 Lux ... everytime i reach for a 75mm i always reach for the 75 Lux

Hope that helps

Cheers,

I was contemplating on buying the 75mm F1.4 and did a lot of research on the net. Found quite a few articles on it but most of the photos in the reviews did not really show the potential of this lens - until I found this thread and saw your photos. I was immediately hooked.

I decided to go specifically for version 1 as it only weighs 490g vs 600g for v2 and 560g for v3

Makes quite a lot of difference when mounted on the camera. Also close to the 75mm F2 apo at 430g

Saw a few copies and finally found and bought one yesterday that is close to mint in the original box. Very pleased with it so far.

Thanks for posting those lovely photos above

Can anyone comment whether v.1 is optically identical to the later iterations? Quite a substantial weight savings.

Optically the same. A few mechanical, cosmetic and body material differences.

One should add the weight of the separate 12539 hood of v1 to be fair and v1 has only 1m or 0.9m MFD vs 0.75m or 0.8m for v2 & v3. Given that v1 is hardly less expensive than v2 or v3 on the s/h market i've never been interested in v1 personally but i'm not a collector.

The 12539 hood is an overpriced, flyweight plastic POS. There are better designed Chinese ventilated hoods.  I think we agree that MFD is  insignificant (my V1).

I believe collectors go for the German Version not the V1 - that is why the price of V1 and V2 is similar and the V3 is way up there

I am a user and not a collector

As Pico says the hood weighs hardly anything

So practically speaking (for myself) I would not use a V2 or V3 much if I bought either as 600g or 560g is just too heavy for my liking. I can live with an MFD of less than 0.9 meters vs 0.8m as my percentage of shots taken at the absolute minimum focusing distance as opposed to non minimum may be 1 to 100.

So to miss 1 shot in a 100 versus not mounting a heavy lens and using it after purchase - I opt for a much lighter lens (with a 0.5m longer minimum focusing distance) which I will use regularly. As I said earlier I am a user not a collector :)

Makes sense. I would have purchased v1 if i had been after a 75mm in 1980-1981. Now for the same price i would still prefer a s/h v3 today but YMMV B).

Horses for courses. The most important thing is that we are both happy with our acquisition as they suit our personal needs :)
