Advertisement Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Hi Acekerman, Take a look here Fav 50 for Monochrom. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
skinnfell Posted November 28, 2013 Share #2 Posted November 28, 2013 A lot of monochrom shooters agree that you want a 50 with a lot of micro detail, but less contrast than for color photography to preserve tonality. I use the summicron 50 ("type 5" , current but non-apo). I have also used the summarit. They are both perfect, but the cron is better built . Summarit got too loose in the focusing for my taste. The "rigid" summicron ("type 2") is also popular, but is hard to find in a good shape for an acceptable price.
ghoonk Posted November 28, 2013 Share #3 Posted November 28, 2013 I'm actually rather pleased with the Canon 50/1.2 LTM lens on my MM. Rendering is a little less clinical and harsh, and contrast is a little lower, which gives me a little more latitude to work with in post, but that's just my opinion

Acekerman Posted November 29, 2013 Author Share #8 Posted November 29, 2013 The 1.5 or 2.5 summarit? Thanks again.
250swb Posted November 29, 2013 Share #9 Posted November 29, 2013 I would also say the 50mm Summilux ASPH. A good balance between being very sharp but not to contrasty and it gives a classic 'roundness' to subjects in the smooth transition of tone. The bokeh is fairly good as well if you like that sort of thing. Steve
ldhrads Posted November 29, 2013 Share #10 Posted November 29, 2013 I mostly use a V4 Summicron, but the Noct 0.95 comes off very nicely on the MM also.
algrove Posted November 29, 2013 Share #11 Posted November 29, 2013 APO50 and/or 50/1.0 not to mention the 40/2 C.
algrove Posted November 29, 2013 Share #12 Posted November 29, 2013 APO 50/f2 Summicron ASPH. I guess I misunderstood your posts on the APO50 flaring thread. So you own the APO50 and use it on your MM?

algrove Posted November 29, 2013 Share #14 Posted November 29, 2013 Good for you! So then how does your APO50 function as regards the flaring that so many had problems with on other threads?
sm23221 Posted November 30, 2013 Share #15 Posted November 30, 2013 I favor the latest Summicron 50 non-APO. High resolution with great contrast and tonal values.
Jay B Posted November 30, 2013 Share #16 Posted November 30, 2013 APO 50/f2 Summicron ASPH. This. You start with the best image you can and then you can turn it into whatever look you want.
platypus Posted November 30, 2013 Share #17 Posted November 30, 2013 So then how does your APO50 function as regards the flaring that so many had problems with on other threads? My APO50 has been faultless apart from one instance of a peculiar central flare way back last July. I did post that shot on the "flare" thread at the time. Can't really comment further as there hasn't been a repeat of the offence, though I have been waiting for it to happen. Incidentally my lens has the visible silver ring or rings. Mysterious isn't it?!

Incidentally my lens has the visible silver ring or rings. Mysterious isn't it?! Yes, very strange situation. The one I am using now seems to have one very very thin silver ring way down deep inside and no others. So far so good, but then I am not one to often shoot in a way that could induce flare either.
