Guys,

Anyone on this forum using the new 50mm APO on a Leica Monochrom................if so how is it, do you like it? What alternate 50mm lens would anyone recommend on the MM and why?

Sorry for so many questions:)

Really depends on your usage, but I use it all the time on my MM and I like the way it crisply renders the edge detail between blacks and whites. I mainly shoot landscape and street with it. I very much like its small size as I have medium sized hands. I like the tab for focusing. Since I own many E39 lenses I like the small filter size for such a powerful lens and the fact that I can switch any E39 B&W filters easily between the lenses I am using that day.

It also renders nicely on the M should you want to use it that way. Sean Reid just published an article comparing it to the normal 50/2.0 non-ASPH.

As you might know, they have stopped production it seems until they can find a uniform fix for some lenses which suffer from flare.

I didn't know that mate............I am planning to get one with the MM in April when I go to Hong Kong and Japan for a photo trip with the old lady................I hope they get there shit together by then.

My plan is to use the Noctilux on the M and if I can get one a APO on the MM............I like 50mm focal length

Peter Karbe in an interview about this combo described it as essentially 'lossless' .... which in photographic terms is probably as good as you can get given the resolution of the sensor.

Do you guys think that once Leica starts production again that they will give the new lens a different model number....................the reason I ask is that I plan to buy both the MM and APO in Hong Kong in April (if they have it) but I would want to make sure that I get a new one if you know what I mean

That's probably a hard one to answer. At this point just keep reading various threads here to see if anyone has received a new one in early 2014. Frankly I do not expect anything before then.

Then again I would be careful buying where you say as the chance of getting an "older" one is high unless you know someone who can intervene on your behalf.
