Staka1977 Posted November 19, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted November 19, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi to all,I've already bought a m8 with a 35 summilux preasph + 12504 hood and want to use it with my lee filter system. The lens does'nt have the screw mount, right? And the lens hood does accept series 7 filter. Is it possible to screw an adapter ring in the front of the hood( from the photos the hood seems to accept screws mount) and,if possible, wich diameter ring fit in the hood? Sorry for my bad English. Advertisement Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Hi Staka1977, Take a look here Summilux 35 pre-asph and Lee filter system.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Carduelis Posted November 19, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted November 19, 2013 I am surprised your lens is not threaded at the front to accept filters such as an UV/ skylight or an adaptor ring for the Lee 75 RF system filter holder to clip on. I have a more recent 35 mm ASPH Summilux lens that at the front can be screwed to a 46 mm adaptor ring (without the lens hood). I would not expect a Lee adaptor ring or filter to be able to be attached to the front of the hood. I may be wrong though. Suggest you consult Lee's website. lct Posted November 20, 2013 Share #3  Posted November 20, 2013 I have no experience with those filters sorry. Neither the Summilux 35/1.4 pre-asph nor the 12504 hood have filter threads but the hood itself is separated into two halves that are screwed on each other. Would it be possible to use the threads of the halves for the purpose of your filters i don't know at all but it's perhaps an idea to be explored. Beware that the half attached to the lens has an external thread though. Its external diameter is about 53mm. Welcome, dear visitor! Duane Pandorf Posted November 20, 2013 Share #4 Â Posted November 20, 2013 I have the same lens and hood. I too was looking for a solution to the challenge you're facing. Â I found I can use a 49mm standard filter between the hood halves as if it were a Series VII filter. Â I use a .9 ND filter (3 stop) all the time on my 35mm Lux to shoot wide open during the day. Â I recently photographed some waterfalls using a .9 ND filter. Â Â
Staka1977 Posted November 25, 2013 Author Share #5 Â Posted November 25, 2013 I've tried to screw an adaptor ring 58 mm directly at the hood ( my hood looks like he can accept ring at his front side and it is a bit too big. I think to try with a 56 mm.:-).
Staka1977 Posted November 25, 2013 Author Share #6 Â Posted November 25, 2013 Ohhh thanks a lot Duane. Two possibilites also: 49 mm ring inside the hood or 39 ( i think the diameter of the screw directly on the lens is 39) directly on the lens. And, if does function (?!!?)56 mm at the front of the hood. Thank you very mutch to all! Christian
xalo Posted November 25, 2013 Share #7 Â Posted November 25, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Christian, The lens has no filter thread on the barrel - at least my canadian version didn't (although I read "41mm" somewhere). A thing you could try with the part of the hood that bayonets onto the lens: use an adapter ring the inside of which fits over the male thread with a little play and fill up the gap with layers of gaffer tape inside the adapter until you can screw it on (and connect it to the Lee holder). This wont be rock solid, but should be sufficient. I'm using a similar technique with an Elmarit R 19m II that doesn't have a filter thread either. Cheers, Â Alexander
pgk Posted November 26, 2013 Share #8  Posted November 26, 2013 Is it possible to screw an adapter ring in the front of the hood (from the photos the hood seems to accept screws mount) and,if possible, which diameter ring fit in the hood? As can be seen from the posted photo the rear section of the hood has a male thread so there is no way that a Lee adapter can be fitted as they all require female threads. If you want a real world solution then I suggest that you look online for a 'rough' condition hood (I bought one recently for £30 off 'the auction site') and glue an appropriate Lee filter plate onto the rear section - this is the most effective solution that I can come up with.
