Standard Handgrip and Finger Loop

Any idea if it's the third and fourth fingers that go through the loop? Just 2 fingers right?
For me it's the middle two fingers that go through the loop. If I try and use the 3rd and 4th fingers I can't get a decent purchase on the grip handle.

I am guessing, like most people at the moment, but looking at the dimensions I obtained from Leica, I think that three fingers could go through the large size loop i.e. middle to little fingers. I also guess that it doesn't really matter which fingers pass through, except for thumb and first 'trigger' finger. I can now see why it is designed to swivel on the attachment pivot and is flexible.

I have always been a strong advocate of the hand-grip. Although I thought the loop to be a rather extravagant luxury extra, I now have a more open mind on its potential usefulness. Like many, I simply cannot understand why the M and X Vario project managers couldn't have planned for simultaneous production and supply of the few accessories with the cameras, notwithstanding the likelihood that it is sub-contracted work. Most new jet airliners are assembled from thousands of specialist parts, produced by very many suppliers. Yet all comes together at launch. You don't have back-orders on seating and handles.

But perhaps the OP can answer my question of the technique he finds best with his new loop.

L – 53 mm × 22 mm

Aha ... unlike Jeff jrovner's measurement gone astray (80 mm × 35 mm), now this sounds plausible.

Two fingers, right—middle finger and ring finger. If the thumb counts as first finger, index second, and pinky fifth then it's 3rd and 4th indeed.

Whoops! I guess bad non-metric habits die hard. You're absolutely right. The opening measure 52x22 millimeters. Sorry about creating confusion.

I originally ordered the large finger loop. It is lose with two fingers except when I leave my class ring on my ring finger, then it is snug. However, it isn't comfortable with my class ring. So I ordered the small loop. I received it yesterday and tried it and find it is too snug. While I can get the two fingers through without my ring, it is tight and not comfortable either. So, now I have ordered the medium loop. I'm hoping it will be just right.

It does make one handing the camera very nice and allows me to do away with the wrist strap. One word of caution, be sure and check the tightness of the screw on occasion as it does work lose from the swivel action even after being tightened as tight as finger tight will allow. A fall to the floor or street would not be good. I hope the mechanically stress tested the screw and plastic part that the screw rests in and that connects the two ends of the rubber loop.

Hello there,

Some of us remember the delay for the first deliveries of the:

Airbus A380

Airbus A350

Boeing 787

Boeing 747-8

These wee counting in years vs. what we see with Leica is still below 12months, not that I'd want to defend such ridiculous supply chain management though.

The good thing is that the cameras are shipping, it's the accessories which fall behind.

When it comes to the finger loop and its size, I always wanted ome of these ever since I first saw the M9 Titan, designed by Walter de Silva which introduced this idea.

I am still a bit lost for the size though as the internal width is plenty in the M size buth the thickness allowed for the fingers is not, for me at least. Therefore I assume I just need to try both the S and the M size at my dealer, once he'll have them at his shop.

Regards,

Joerg

Go by the diameter of the two middle fingers. The thickness will work out fine. You want a little looseness in the diameter or it will not be comfortable due to the rigidness of the rubber material. It will press against the top of the fingers in a mildly painful way when you let the camera hang on your finger tips. If the diameter is too lose it will feel like it would slip off and too tight and it is uncomfortable and may be difficult to get your fingers in the loop. I would start with medium unless you have very large hands and go from there.
