Hi All,

Need some advice.

I have the M240 with the 50Lux, but really miss a wide angle to take landscape and nature shots...

What are your suggestions? Max 3000 USD.

LEICA, VOIGT, ZEISS...

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks,

P

Since I personally use the 35mm more than the 50mm, I recommend a 35mm Summicron ASPH or pre ASPH. I know the focal lengths seem close but to me they have a totally different look and perspective.

Yes....I am thinking 35mm or going all the way to 21mm....

Once at a time you will buy all lenses of the line, so, get the one you like more now.

Next month or for your birthday, or Christmas or for no reason, you will buy another one.

If you buy a 35, you will love the idea of a 28, than a 90 will enter into your bag for portraiting someone.......

If you are married, you could buy also a 75 for your wife :D

I agree with the comments above about the 28 Summicron as a partner for your 50 Summilux.

I feel that with these two superlative lenses, I never really need anything else, and unless you're into some very specialised photography, in which case you wouldn't be asking the question because you'd know the answer, this pair will give you more satisfaction and be more versatile at the very highest possible level of quality than any two other lenses around.

I'll swim against the current on this one.

I've been using a Summicron 28 and Summicron 35 (v3) for quite some many years, and whilst I very much like what the 28 captures, too often there's a wee too much edge-distortion on 2-3m scenarios.

I very much like my Summilux-M 50mm ASPH FLE (yes the owner's booklet describes this as an FLE lens) on my M240 and now just also bought a Summilux-M 35mm ASPH FLE .

I actually prefer the 35 FLE as my wide and I do NOT find it too close to my 50 FLE

These two FLE's have similar IQ characteristics, bokeh and both deliver the "Leica glow" I like so much.

So for me 35mm FLE for scenery, buildings and people.

and the 50mm FLE for intimacy.

Do you like the EVF? If that is the case, you could think of R-lenses too.

With R-lenses you could focus under 70cm. Or the 24mm is an opportunity. Or even a zoom-R.

The OP wants to spend less than $3k for his next lens. Sticking with the Leica brand limits him to the 28 Elmarit, 24 Elmar and 21 SE. The 28 and 35 crons sell for more than 3k today.

Of course one could buy the Voight 35 1.2 or an R lens but I feel they both defeat the purpose I bought the rangefinder and that is for compactness.

However, if the OP is willing to look into the used lens market he may find some older model lenses that fit his budget.
