UliWer Posted November 7, 2013 Share #3 Â Posted November 7, 2013 Well...actually... I am not quite sure, if it would be a good idea to start looking for an excellent French Restaurant in Solms, Germany... Â Though of course there is no reason not to try. marcg Posted November 7, 2013 Author Share #4  Posted November 7, 2013 Ask La Maison du Leica, Blvd Beaumarchais. Can't find the phone right now..  LEICA-sommaire  Thanks very much. I'll give them a ring.  I had a chat this morning with Will van Manen Kamera-Service. He sounds really great and I may use him.  I have to say that dealing with any kind of French service centre - especially in Paris, fills me with dread. I'll see what they say. marcg Posted November 7, 2013 Author Share #5  Posted November 7, 2013 OK - Will van Manen - very friendly guy. Thoroughly knows his business. Does the work on site. Will do coding on site. Prepared to spend a little time giving explanations - about €90 for the CLA and about €100 Euros for coding. Two lenses - a Lux 50 and T-Elmarit 90 - about €400 Euros in all - turn-around about 14 days.  La Maison du Leica - spoke to a receptionist who is friendly enough and has some knowledge but who won't talk specifics, who wants to give pat answers and who would quite clearly like to get off the phone - about €450 per lens for CLA and coding. Will have to be sent to Germany and will take around 6 weeks. - so about €900 for both lenses.  Hmmm, it's going to be a difficult choice. I suppose that there will be a saving in postage if I go to Beaumarchais ....
algrove Posted November 7, 2013 Share #6 Â Posted November 7, 2013 There must be someone in France who can do this fairly simple repair instead of sending to Germany. Â Try to call Numeriphot in Toulouse. 0562 73 32 60. Ask for Sebastian. Tell him Lou from the US suggested you call him. Emphasize you would like to get it done in France if at all possible from a respected individual.

marcg Posted November 7, 2013 Author Share #8 Â Posted November 7, 2013 Thanks for this. It's not only a question of being able to do the job - but it is also a question of a customer-facing attitude - scarcer than hens' teeth in France. I'll give your contact a ring - but generally, having lived here for several years, I find that the customer service attitude is pretty poisonous. I'll see what Sebastian says - but Will seems to be well-regarded on this site and my telephone experience with him so far has been excellent. Toulouse and Netherlands are not so dramatically different in distance from Paris - so it really is a question of who will do a nice job and deal with me as a paying client with a common interest in the quality of the equipment. marcg Posted November 7, 2013 Author Share #9 Â Posted November 7, 2013 I don't see this as a difficult choice...Will is highly reputed and thoroughly reliable. Yup. I agree. In fact your previous posts a couple of years ago which prompted me to call him. It wouldn't matter if if Beaumarchais were slightly more expensive - or their lead time was slightly longer - but attitude and confidence really is the deal-breaker. algrove Posted November 7, 2013 Share #10 Â Posted November 7, 2013 If LMduLeica is just going to forward it to Solms for you, then you might as well go elsewhere. Sebastien might have a recommendation of someone near you. That was what I was thinking. He is a Leica guy.
marcg Posted November 13, 2013 Author Share #11 Â Posted November 13, 2013 Update: Â I called Will today. He received the lenses yesterday and has already coded them today! Â He is going to CLA them in the next day or so - so I expect that they will be returned to me next week. Pretty phenomenal service. Â He told me that they use an M240 to check the calibration because it is so astonishingly accurate using live-view that there is no sense in doing it any other way. Last time I was there, he was still using the old collimator but was eager to get his hands on an M240 to ensure the best possible calibration. This is indeed good news - I have a few more lenses to send him...

Just got an email from the French postal service telling me that the lenses will be delivered to Will tomorrow!!! Â It's called "managing customer's expectations". Â As an aside, you may also have noticed that French public service companies typically refer to people as "usagers" rather than "clients". Rather telling in terms of customer focus - use at your own peril...
helged Posted November 13, 2013 Share #16 Â Posted November 13, 2013 Will (and Cathy) is great - I have had several bodies, lenses (both leica and non-leica) and visoflexes on repair/adjustment/6-bit coding. Highly recommended.

marcg Posted November 20, 2013 Author Share #18  Posted November 20, 2013 Update:- Received email from Will. The job has been finished and the lenses are ready. Both lenses CLA'd and coded. The 90 had some haze which has been removed and old lubrication has been replaced with modern synthetic product.  He should receive my Paypal payment today and the lenses will be despatched by UPS tomorrow.  I suppose that I will have them back by next Monday. Pretty good - 14 days door to door.  By the way, coding cost €85 which I think is a very good price. I had a quote from London for £100 per lens from someone who actually has a coding machine bought from Leica.  Quotes from France - well either the lenses would be sent to Leica - or else the companies simply didn't bother to return my calls. Go figure.
