Hi,

Anyone with some experience with this combo?

Have opportunity to buy almost new lens at very good price, but I am not sure how good performer it is on M9?

And yes I would prefer if it was a bit faster ( I actually originally wanted ZM 2.8/25 - anyone knows how does it compare to it? ) but this Voigt. is 1/3rd of the Zeiss price and therefore I think I could live with it - I have my 50 Lux and 35 Cron when I need more speed ;)

Any information would be greatly appreciated

Cheers / Alex

Not the best combination with the M9. There is significant red edge, although in black and white conversions its not as noticeable. It's also softer than you might want. The 25mm Biogon is a much superior lens in sharpness, has minimal, if any, edge colour problems, and is one of the sharpest Zeiss rangefinder lenses. I much prefer to use the Zeiss over the Voigtlander 25/4. On a film camera, the Voigtlander is fine, though.

No red edge, just decentering which means one side sharper than the other and neither really sharp. When I went digital, mine went in a drawer. 21 pre asph and 28 V3 came out.

I bought these new in 1980`s and they still work ok. I am sure newer designs are better.

OTOH I have this lens and it's one of my favourites, very sharp and nice contrast, amazing little lens IMHO.

I should add that I use it on a lllf and I've never seen any evidence of soft edges!

Buy it and try it, you can sell it for what you pay for it anyway.

I use this combination myself. For the price, it's a total gem of a lens. It does vignette, it is better on black and white (in my opinion) and there is notable barrel distortion. That and f4 isn't the brightest. It still takes some great shots tho.

I will be trading mine in towards a Zeiss 25/2.8 tho - for the distortion, the extra stop of light, and if i get some extra sharpness too, that's great. I mostly shoot 25mm at f8, hyperfocal so both lenses would be at their best.
