I have reviewed this forum's lens Wiki and also the WWW on the 35mm Summilux-M ASPH FLE

Some sites refer to a change of hood attachment between the original 2010 FLE and the current FLE.

Is that the only change to the current FLE ?

My understanding is that the current 35 Summilux Asph (with FLE) was introduced in 2010 with a new metal screw-on hood, not used with the prior non-FLE (1994-2010) version. Then in 2011, a new hood (part 12466) was introduced for that earlier, non-FLE, version, not for the already new FLE version.

But I don't own the lens or the hood; just what I've read.

Don't believe everything you read on the internet. Wiki button above on this page should be reliable.

As far as I know there has been only one 35/1.4 #11663 since 2010.

Ummm agree with you,..... particulary the Wiki on this site is, sorry to say, quite incomplete on many product specifications.......

However it is this forum that talks about some range hood differences between the initial 2010 FLE and the current FLE.....

Where?

Jeff

I knew...... someone would ask that.

I've been looking back in the fora without success

I remember that it had something to do with current model FLE's are now being shipped with an extra screw-on-ring in place of using a hood, to protect the exposed threads.

Hm, I bought mine in B&H, new, in March, and it came with the metal hood, but I don't remember I received any protective ring.

Was there supposed to be one in the box?

I remeber somebody mentioned it here, the hood was a bit redesigned a bit as somw b+w filters could fit in, so this might be the difference between two fle.

Yes, if I remember correctly the ring is hidden under the foam in the bottom of the leather lens case.

Reliable anecdotal evidence suggests that hood has been modified slightly (to allow more clearance for filters) since the release of the lens in 2010. There has never been any suggestion that the lens itself has changed at all during the last three years and IMO the minor modification to the hood doesn't warrant any kind of FLE II designation.

Bully for you means good for you.

Ian... let's be honest, this term is used in a derisive or sarcastic way, along the lines of, 'Well then, aren't YOU the clever one?'"

I have a British background and when you told Lou that it means, "good for you" well, this is clearly not what it means at all. You can't bullshit me ;), it is a sarcastic Brit saying.

Lou is not a source of "anecdotal" information like what you have stated you drew your knowledge from. He is a valued member of this forum who contributes from firsthand knowledge drawn from using a vast amount of Leica equipment over many years. I think you owe him an apology.
