I often see the brand new leica lens off ebay or other site priced lower a bit than retail should be, especially when comes to buy lux, or noctilux the difference is there , wondering where those ebay one comes from?

or I actually should negotiate with my dealer when purchase?

I would venture to say that an "authorized" dealer cannot negotiate on their price. The ones on ebay are not from authorized dealers or they have an "international" warranty.

Well, actually, you can find a big selection of lenses at Adorama right now with reduced prices and condition "D," which means mint as new. I don't know how long these will last, but I got a Noct 0.95 with USA warranty for a substantial savings. The kit had obviuosly not been disturbed since packing at Solms, and the Noct exceeds my most indulgent expectations.

BTW, I have no affiliation with Adorama, except I can say I am very satisfied after buying several lenses there over the years. Ask for Meyer... he is a straight shooter.

In terms of general eBay listings, however, I just don't feel it is worth the risk. Buy from an authorized dealer, as even they will blow off stock from time to time (see above).

Dealers do buy ex-demo lenses from their national distributor occasionally, as and when available. The discount is modest but worthwhile provided the lens has been back to Germany for checking before being offered for sale.

As far as ebay goes it depends on who the seller is.

You may pay your money and find you get nothing at all! Or it could be a seller who thinks that a secondhand lens in a box is still 'new'.

If it's a genuinely new item, not ex demo, reconditioned or whatever, then it could be a bargain, but either the dealer is taking a lower margin or the lens has come via some other source than Leica directly.....

I would personally prefer to spend my money with a dealer I know, and who I know will be around should there be a problem down the line.

what is 0 supposed to mean ?

It is the letter O. It means the item is refurbished by Leica (CPO=Certified Pre-Owned) and carries a warranty although some warranties are just one year instead of the normal 2 year.

Lou, no, my lens (s/n 420xxxx) has no markings on the outer box, inner box or paperwork. It is full warranty from Leica USA and packed just like every other pristine Leica lens I have purchased at full price. I asked Adorama about this twice (I usually purchase from another NY dealer), and they would not answer. So, I wrote to Leica Solms, and they confirmed an April assembly date and new lens status.

My understanding is that the Leica lens market is a bit soft now. I do not know if all of the Adorama offerings as "D" include a full warranty like mine did, but the savings are quite large.

Most importantly, my Noct is whompingly good. Here is a test shot from Saturday (f/0.95). I don't know how nuanced the image will be on line, but the 13x19 is stunning.
