With such a long throw on the Noctilux I would suspect it will turn out to be more of a hindrance than a help...... ..... I still find this consistently the easiest and most accurate lens to focus out of all that Leica produce. A Magnifying eyepiece is more help if you are having problems. But this steer looks little bit small for 0.95 The photo you linked is actually a shot of erl using his Noctilux during he recent One challenge in Wetzlar. I asked him about the Steer, and he said that the Steer is a bit small for the lens, and hence there is around 1-2cm gap underneath the lens that is not covered by the Steer. Erl swears by his, although personally I find it makes the lens even larger to handle than it already is. It might just take a bit of time to get used to though..... Yes it's permanently on my 50/1 Noctilux v4 and it was the gent in the linked photo who put me onto it. I agree with Thighslapper that the Noctilux has a long focus throw but I don't find that to be a particular problem with the Steer because most of the time I'm shooting wide open and the focus is in approximately the right area so the focus ring movements are small. The focus ring on some Noctilux's seem to be quite 'heavy' and the Steer helps this by offering additional torque because you're rotating from further away from the lens's axis (the force x distance principle). The inner surface of the Steer has adhesive tape and the Steer is secured around the lens with a Neoprene ring that stretches over hooks at the two ends. (I've had to remove the Steer once and no adhesive from the tape was left on the focus ring.) I think the diameter of the Noctilux is about as wide as the Steer will cope with; I tried it on my 80 Summilux-R and it wouldn't fit around it. Pete.
