paperman Posted October 27, 2013 Share #1  Posted October 27, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello to everyone, waiting for my "new" M8.2 I'm choosing the main lens to buy..... I have found:  - 28mm elmarit-M (III) for 600 euro - 35mm summarit for 850 euro  (now I own only a 90mm Elmarit-M, I would not have more than two lenses but in the future I would add a 15 or 21 wide Voigtlander)  What do you suggest? Thank you.
Advertisement Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Hi paperman, Take a look here M8 main lens?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
DirkB17 Posted October 27, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted October 27, 2013 My first lens to combine with my M8 was the 35 Summarit (which is an excellent match). Besides two 50s and a nice 75 I recently bought a 28 Sumicron. So in the end I guess the question is not "which one", the real question is "which one first". In the end you will own both. Â Good luck with your decision.
tobey bilek Posted October 27, 2013 Share #3 Â Posted October 27, 2013 I would buy a Summarit 35 unless I was going to use in dark venues. A 28 2.8 Asph if I liked a wider lens as standard which I do not. I consider the the perfect focal for M8 to be 28,35, 75. Â Mine has a 35 pre asph or version 4 which I have owned for decades. The 75 Summicron works a charm on it. The Mandler 28 2.8 serves as a wide which is not often used. Substitute a 24 for the 28 if you like. 24/35 is a better set for full frame if you get there. jdlaing Posted October 27, 2013 Share #4 Â Posted October 27, 2013 40mm Summicron.
dblrifle Posted October 28, 2013 Share #5 Â Posted October 28, 2013 I can't really afford Leitz lenses for my M8's so I have a Voightlander 40mm 1.4 on one and a 21mm 4 on the other and am more than satisfied with them both. Have an auxiliary 50mm Leitz finder on the 40mm and the Voightlander 21/25 auxiliary on the 21. They work perfectly for me as I wear glasses. I have the added advantage of not really being able to distinguish a Leitz lense from any othe premium lense of like focal length and aperture. So I have never really understood the 'Leica mystique' though I have used Leica rangefinders since 1956 simply because they are fine machines and just plain feel good in the hand. lct Posted October 28, 2013 Share #6 Â Posted October 28, 2013 28 if you prefer the 35mm FoV on FF cams, 35 if you prefer the 50mm FoV on FF cams.
AbbeyFoto Posted October 28, 2013 Share #7 Â Posted October 28, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Out of the two you mention I can recommend the 35mm Summarit but have no experience with the 28mm elmarit-M (III). I picked up a S/H 28mm f/2.8 ASPH to give the "35mm" like perspective. I can add I got to like the non-standard 67mm equivalent of a 50mm lens. hx911 Posted October 29, 2013 Share #8 Â Posted October 29, 2013 my favorite lens with the M8 was the 28 Summicron - still love it on the M9. The 35 Summicron has NOT taken its place on the m9, strangely the 50 Lux is the one. Â Just saying that there is no easy way saying what is the best - I also loved the 50 Elmar 2.8 Â very personal, and , for me' where I am shooting. New York or London I feel 28mm all the time, or even shorter. Sicily, or greek islands 50 mm or longer. Â just my 5c
