kaethe Posted October 26, 2013 Share #1  Posted October 26, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Those of you with beautiful gardens will probably cringe at the the idea of having a farm box delivered to your front porch, but here in San Francisco, where my garden is a narrow, dog-prone strip along the sidewalk, it is very practical and an excellent way to support our local farmers. The farms like the direct delivery program, they harvest exactly what they know is ordered the day before and deliver it in the wee hours of the morning before the traffic starts and on their way to the local farmers market of the day. For me, I can choose the weekly box or custom pick according to the harvest list at the beginning of the week. It is actually more cost efficient than going to the local market, and because I either walk or bike in the city, definitely more time efficient. The farmer also includes a wonderful journal note, to keep me up on the seasonal activity at the farm, and we can go visit during open farm, each season.  Ok, Farm box, week three October. kaethe Posted October 27, 2013 Author Share #6 Â Posted October 27, 2013 Thank you, everyone for stopping by. Yes, it is a treat to be able to enjoy farm fresh veggies in urban places and a great alternative to going to a mega grocery store and buying early picked, warehouse ripened, bland tasting produce trucked in from a distance. kaethe
