fulshawpark Posted October 9, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted October 9, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I did search the forum but only found 2 prior posts that did not fully resolve my questions so I hope someone can help. Â The L-Camera Forum Wiki states under compatibility that both version 1 & ELC v2's of 35mm f/1.4 Summilux lenses "cannot be used on M9 cameras without modification by Leica service facility". Â http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/35mm_f/1.4_Summilux_I http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/35mm_f/1.4_Summilux_II Â I emailed Leica US service and they seemed totally ignorant of this and could only tell me that if I send in my lens and camera they will give me a quote for 'repair'! I have not yet bought a Summulix, I'm trying to ascertain what it would cost me to make the lens work on my M9 before I buy one - i.e. if it costs $500 to fix it I may as well buy the ASPH version, although I'd rather have the smaller V1 or V2 Â Question's: Is the Wiki "lenses cannot be used on M9 cameras without modification by Leica" an accurate statement? If so does it refer to mount and possible binding or just to focus correction? Any help, advice will be greatly appreciated. Â Thanks
Advertisement Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 Hi fulshawpark, Take a look here Summilux 35mm Non-ASPH M9 compatibility. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
luigi bertolotti Posted October 9, 2013 Share #2  Posted October 9, 2013 The question of possible incompatibility of the Lux 35 non-asph and M9 (and M8 too) is not so simple, and is not an absolute truth : fact is that SOME Summilux (all ELC, afaik, but the "Made in Germany" are rather few and recent) have a metal shroud/baffle around the back element that can interfere within the lens' throats of M8/9 ; the exact story of this small component (which, I repeat, is not the same on ALL items... I have a chrome 1.765.xxx and a black 2.290.xxx, both without the issue) is not well clear... seems it was added at the final QC stage for tolerancing reasons and if "too high" it results in the problem... Anyway is a very "small" problem (1mm or so) and a good mechanic can cut it away... some have also succeded in filing it by hand (after due protection of the glass...), eliminating the problem  Surely, in the forum detailed pictures of this issue were posted (I'd say at "M8 times" by sure... 2007/2008) and searching with patience you can find them : the baffle is a well VISIBLE detail. luigi bertolotti Posted October 9, 2013 Share #4  Posted October 9, 2013 Found a pair of images...  The baffle is herunder (the lens is a recent Germany Lux 35 preasph, probably without the issue)) Welcome, dear visitor!
