They are without predator, will eat their young, and between their oral bacterial and hemotoxin their bite is almost always fatal, though they prefer to eat their prey after it has rotted some. I had a savannah moniter as a pet. You might be interested to know that the family is one of a few vertebrates that has been observed to be able to breed by parthenogenesis. No male required.
