To my eyes, some of the most wondrous miracles of nature are bristlecone pines, generally found at elevations above 7000 feet in the American West. The greatest concentration of these ancient trees, some of which are known to be over 5000 years old is atop the White mountains of California, near the cities of Bishop & Big Pine, East of the great Sierra Nevada chain.

Color, black & white, film or digital, various formats, to me it really doesn't seem to matter much, the trips to visit these majestic monuments are always meorable highlights of the year and amount to so much more than mere 'photo outings'.and amount to so much more than mere 'photo outings'.

Another reason I like visiting the bristlecone forest as much as I do, it's the ideal testing ground for lenses, sensors and camera bodies and a truly useful & effrective environment for practicing the very fundamentals of photography in general.

The last one in this set is particularly nice, showing the majesty and the character of these trees in full force.

Here is a juniper overlooking the Colorado River on the South Rim:

Very nice pictures, but unfortunately little appreciation in the forum. At the same time, trees are an essential living creature in times of climate crisis!

Unfortunately, trees are often considered only as a factor in forestry.
