aesop Posted September 25, 2013 Share #1 Posted September 25, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) ...just found an unopened pack of Ilford Galerie FB paper (Grade 2, glossy, 20 x 24 inches, 10 sheets) - it has been carefully stashed away in optimum conditions for approximately 8 years. Before I proceed to carry out any tests, does anyone have practical experience on how long this sort of paper will keep before it starts to degrade? Thanks in advance. 250swb Posted September 25, 2013 Share #2 Posted September 25, 2013 I think it should come out like new, just depends on the actual conditions it was stored in. A fridge is pretty safe, somewhere cool like a dry cellar is OK, but a dry cool cellar next to a load of old chemicals gradually gassing off may degrade it. tobey bilek Posted November 2, 2013 Share #3 Posted November 2, 2013 Cut a piece, test it. use balance for test strips for real prints. Use fresh developer that you just diluted. No safe lights. Some of newer papers fog in 3 years from date of manufacture so look to see if unexposed borders are paper base white after processing. 8 years old fall inside the new manufacturing technology designed so paper need not be aged. Downside is short shelf life unlike older papers that lasted half way to forever. Ilford tech told me a long time ago freezing will not extend life significantly.
