Do We need fast and asph lenses with the MM?

Why do I prefer a 75 Summicron over a 75 summarit ?

The minimum focus distance ( 70cm vs 90cm) does make a big difference !

And yes, you could crop, but I prefer to take my pictures in-camera as much as possible.

And nice to use it in combination with a 35 summicron, both f2 wide open.

I have never been disappointed by 35,50,75 Summarits.

However I still believe the 35FLE, 50 Summilux and 75 Summicron can produce images with a "clarity" which I dont see in the Summarit images.

I sold my 75 Summarit, but I kept the 35 and 50 Summarits because sometimes I like the small size. I would say it is a matter of taste - but one can clearly see differences.

In case of the 35mm focal lengths the 35 Summilux FLE also seems to show better corner performance (not saying te Summarit would be bad in this regard but my FLE is better than my Summarit).

Regarding speed of the lenses...I use f1.4 very seldom because I find the DOF too shallow.

under certain light conditions yes. this picture pushed the MM to its max:

ISO 10.000

Summilux 35 FLE f;1,4

1/30

...now this is my personal understanding of M 'territory'. Surreptitious low-light magic. Outstanding.
