Advertisement Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Hi Andi_77, Take a look here superwide for an M9: which one?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
IWC Doppel Posted September 5, 2013 Share #22 Â Posted September 5, 2013 Yes I did think about this, but then stood back and thought about viewfinders with 5 or more groups of glass and costing several hundreds of pounds and concluded the obvious here, I suspect this will be fraught with dissapointments ! Â By cheap, by twice as they say...
pfhrased Posted September 6, 2013 Share #23 Â Posted September 6, 2013 If you end up getting multiple focal lengths between 15 and 35mm, the CV zoom finder is pretty nice. Â Voigt 15-35 VF Â Not all that cheap, but bright and practical - and nowhere near as bulky as the frankenfinder.
jonogilmour Posted September 7, 2013 Share #24 Â Posted September 7, 2013 Just be aware that some super wides for the M mount are designed for film M bodies, and present colour shifts when put on digital. woorob Posted September 7, 2013 Share #25 Â Posted September 7, 2013 I have one of the cheap 18mm finders through eBay (from a seller in Israel) and while it is both cheap and cheaply made, it works fine for me.

C1 has a one-click LCC correction tool, there are flat field plugins for CS6 and Lightroom, there is Cornerfix, all of which give you a perfect correction with one or two clicks. Mashimaro Posted September 9, 2013 Share #28 Â Posted September 9, 2013 OP - I tried the Leica 21mm 3.4 ASPH today in my local store and it's an amazing lens. Sharp at 3.4 and it's only a tiny bit wider than the frame lines in my M9. Corner sharpness was great and the distortion wasn't too bad at all. Â I'm tempted by it but 3k is more than I want to spend right now on a wide angle. Â For the record I personally thought the 21mm was wide enough as I tried out the current Lieca 18mm as well. algrove Posted September 9, 2013 Share #29  Posted September 9, 2013 Thanks everyone! I probably didn't make myself clear... I actually spotted those two lenses for sale on two websites, and I was undecided. So it's not really about "which is better, an 18mm or a 21mm?" but more about those two specific models, the Elmarit 21 "pre-asph" version and the Super Elmar M 18mm. In other terms, are they both good in terms of optical quality, performance, sharpness, etc?  Thanks again  Well, I have both and the 21 Elmarit-M pre-asph if it's the E60 model (#11134) is terrific as filter compatibility is getting important to me with ND and B&W filter use these days. The 18 SEM filter adapter is not so easy as light leaks to the side disturb me from time to time. Without filters the 18 is superb. If you often look for near/far images, nothing beats the 18SEM, other than below.  Now to go a step further, consider this for the day you might go M240. The R 15/2.8. One incredible lens. I posted some images taken with it I think on Jaap's R lenses on M thread.
IWC Doppel Posted September 9, 2013 Share #30  Posted September 9, 2013 Don't ignore the 21mm ASPH as an option, a very nice lens indeed and selling at very good prices today, I took it along with my 18mm SEM last week. Nothing wrong with a lens that is 15 years old and has a small mark on the front glass as well in this case....  No sharpening, f5.6. I really like the rendering of this and it's close brother the 24mm Welcome, dear visitor! Andi_77 Posted November 29, 2013 Author Share #31  Posted November 29, 2013 Last week, while I was in NYC, I eventually decided to buy the Zeiss 21mm f/2.8, and a Voigtlander 21/24 viewfinder (the "cheap" one, plastic, square-ish). I bought both at B&H for a good price.  I'm REALLY satisfied with the lens so far. The viewfinder is quite good, you only have to get used to the fact that if your eye is too close you can't see the framing lines well.  One question though... I bought a Zeiss UV filter and a B+W ND filter. No problem at all with the Zeiss filter, but the B+W creates some weird, purple "ghost"/flare spots in the corner of the image... I was thinking that maybe it was too thick, but it's as slim as the Zeiss....  Here is an example (bottom right corner). This is a direct JPEG export from the DNG, no modifications. Any idea on the possible cause?  Thanks a lot Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! IWC Doppel Posted December 1, 2013 Share #32 Â Posted December 1, 2013 Glad you settled on the 21, never had any issues with filters on my 21 and not seen anything like you have shown here
rirakuma Posted December 1, 2013 Share #33 Â Posted December 1, 2013 That's really odd, it looks like light leak? I've never had this issue doing long exposure and I use a B+W filter as well.

Erik Gunst Lund Posted December 3, 2013 Share #38 Â Posted December 3, 2013 Don't worry this cast is not induced by the lens itself. Â Try to google purple cast and ND
michaelwj Posted December 4, 2013 Share #39 Â Posted December 4, 2013 That might be a less frightening explanation... Â Hi Andi, Â If you end up resolving it, can you let us all know what it was, ND filter or light leak? I'm thinking about a 21 maybe next year, I'd be interested to know. (looking at the light leak explanation, linked in the thread I posted (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1313062&postcount=30) , it looks quite likely, same place, size, and colour).
