GdOC Posted August 30, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted August 30, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a problem: if I use my Tele Elmarit lens at infinity with maximum aperture (2,8) the resulting picture is completely out of focus. No problem at shorter distances. I have the same problem both with M8 and with M Monochrom. What's wrong?
Advertisement Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 Hi GdOC, Take a look here 135 mm. f2,8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted August 30, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted August 30, 2013 You mean Elmarit 135/2.8 with goggles i guess. You should have no problem at infinity with either camera normally. Your lens needs some calibration probably. At closer distances, i would not expect high hit rates below f/3.5 with the M8 due to the crop factor. GdOC Posted September 24, 2013 Author Share #4 Â Posted September 24, 2013 I sent the 135 mm. F 2,8 to Leica to check it. Before starting I was warned about the cost: 580 EUR. Notoriously this is a lens which can be found for less in mint condition on the used market...No comment! I asked to send it back and now I will have to find somebody to repair it.... Â Hi, The repair cost sounds rather high. I had mine adjusted and collimated at Leica NJ for $300 two years ago. Focussing this lens is difficult on the M9, so I do not use it much handheld. menos I M6 Posted September 25, 2013 Share #6 Â Posted September 25, 2013 If this lens has a removable optical cell, to be used also on a Visoflex, check, that the optical cell is indeed properly seated in the focus mount. Should it not be fully tightened, it might be too far away from the cameras sensor, resulting in front focussing (never reaching infinity). Â Independent services also work on this lens (Don Goldberg or Sherry Krauter come to mind in the US). You might want to investigate with them or others, who will work on this lens. luigi bertolotti Posted September 25, 2013 Share #7 Â Posted September 25, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) In Italy SAMCA of Genova is smart on M lenses calibration; in Holland there is the excellent Will Van Manen. Â (but... check indeed the lenshead before sending... , but if it is not completely tightened, you would observe wrong focus also at nearer distances)
Printmaker Posted September 25, 2013 Share #8 Â Posted September 25, 2013 Don Goldberg aka DAG told me that a CA would run about $250 on this lens. That was a while ago when I had the same focus problem on my M8. This quote was about half of the cost of the lens so I cleaned and lubed it myself (outer glass surfaces and threads etc.) It got better but was not 100% perfect. The lens does work perfectly on my M9 however, leading me to suspect my old M8's accuracy. Â I was going to look for a nice tele Elmar to save some weight but I really don't use a 135 all that often, so I never got around to it. Besides "big ugly" is so ugly that it is kinda cool.
