I found the review interesting, but do agree with the illogical comments regarding lens and sensor resolution. The most obvious thing that came across to me was the different needs and preferences of landscape photographers.

For what it's worth with a more reportage style use I was quite surprised how impressive this lens was on the M9. The thing that came to mind was a transparency to the resolution, in a wholly positive someone has just cleaned the windows kindof way. If I didn't have three 50's and I did have £5k burning a hole in my pocket I'd be interested.

Out if my league but lovely, well done Leica

Soooo getting back to the review of the 50 APO Summicron, I have one and I think it is a fantastice lens and everyone should buy it.

That's my review. Oh, I am not a very technical person by the way. :D

I can understand every word of your review except for fantastice. At least I now know there are two of us who can't type and ignore speller checking.

We need more reviews like this, not technical and highly personal from a real user, not those who chime in, don't own the lens and have no experience with the lens they are evaluating.

I don't believe that the 100% crop ("In the Kitchen" ... salt & pepper & wine bottle) in the review is actually at 100%. That looks like it is enlarged to 50%, not 100% (unless the original is itself cropped).

Edit: the same for "Forest and Rock, Yosemite" ... the crop looks like it is at 50%.

I agree.

And, what f-stop are these pictures taken with? Did he ignore the stopped-down flare that seems to be present with this lens? I am skeptical about calling this lens "fantistice" at this point. I am also the first person that wants to be wrong about this and would love to get a "good" copy of this lens.

Fantastice means "really good" in non-technical terms.

Actually I find myself being economical--I sleep in cheap hotels, I fly for free whenever possible, I rent-a-wreck rental cars, I keep telling my wife each box that arrives is just more filters, I buy cheap gas for the car, I do not own expensive cars, I do not own expensive houses, I sold my airplane, I sold my yacht, I sold my helicopter, I sold my Nikon gear, I sold my stocks, I sold my gold and I'm thinking of moving into an RV. Where id it all go? Solms.

Just a minute the arthritis in my fingers is hurting from crossing them so long.
