NZDavid Posted August 16, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted August 16, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have noticed that a few lenses -- 2/35-Asph, 2.8/Elmarit, and 3.4/135 Apo-Telyt -- may be backfocusing on the M. Either that or they or need recalibrating. I did some tripod tests and noticed some anomalies but I wanted them tested more scientifically so a local technician is checking all my M lenses using a collimator and the M6. He may be able to recalibrate the settings if they are out, but what needs to be done about back focusing on the M9? I am loathe to ship anything to Solms as servicing takes three months from New Zealand and I cannot afford to be without gear for so long.
Advertisement Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Hi NZDavid, Take a look here M lens adjustments - how and who?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
John McMaster Posted August 17, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted August 17, 2013 I have had Hayden (via Greg at photo.co.nz) sort out my M9/Noctilux - and that was after it had been to Solms. However I assume that is who has it now ;-) Â john
jaapv Posted August 17, 2013 Share #3 Â Posted August 17, 2013 You asked this in another thread as well. Just have a competent technician adjust the rangefinder, or even do it yourself. There are instructions to be found on this forum. As for the lenses, he may run into trouble with the Apo-Telyt. That is not a simple lens to adjust. The others can be adjusted by reshimming. If he can adjust a lens, a rangefinder is child's play for him.
erl Posted August 17, 2013 Share #4 Â Posted August 17, 2013 David, Camera Clinic in Collingwood, Melbourne are authorized and competent to do most Leica service and repairs. On several occasions they have corrected lenses returned from Solms as 'adjusted', which were 'off'. Results were spot on. Â I have a very exhaustive test that also confirms their accuracy. If you wish to contact them, PM me and I will facilitate.
NZDavid Posted August 17, 2013 Author Share #5 Â Posted August 17, 2013 Thanks all for prompt replies. I may take it back to Greg, but will what local chap says first. Yes, I posted query in lens forum and the other in M forum re rangefinder adjustment. It would be ideal if both could be done at the same time. hoppyman Posted August 21, 2013 Share #6 Â Posted August 21, 2013 David to reinforce what Erl has suggested, Camera Clinic have been certified to a higher level for servicings of bodies and lenses now. They are even doing sensor replacements and (some at least) 6 BIT encoding I think definitely worthwhile to just give them a call to discuss what you are after. Â Not every lens calibration/repair can be done there. For example I'm told that the Summilux 50 ASPH is invariably returned to the production line for rebuilding (due to the cemented elements/FLE design) (mine was).. But other modern lenses MAY be able to be done here for some work (eg a shimming adjustment perhaps). My 35 FLE was (and to perfection).
NZDavid Posted August 21, 2013 Author Share #7 Â Posted August 21, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks Erl and Geoff, I might just do that. Local guy is rather pressured so hasn't had a chance to look at the lenses yet. I still find it amazing how fast Leica service seems to be in some places (Europe, US) but takes months from NZ, which is rather off-putting to say the least, especially the inconvenience of not having your gear for so long.
