Voigtlander 15mm question

It can, but it is not coupled to the Leica Rangefinder. So you have to focus appoximately using the DoF scale on the lens. This is a fine solution for this lens as the focus range is so large that almost everything will be in focus anyway. Just look at the scale engraved on the lens an you will understand.

Because it is a version that's not rangefinder coupled?

Frankly, I don't think any of them are. Mine is surely not. The lens focuses down to 30cm whereas the closest you can go with the rangefinder mechanism is 70cm. So coupling it would be impossible. And making a version that focus only down to 70cm would be like throwing the baby out with the bathwater. You could couple it to the rangefinder, perhaps, but you miss out on much of the fun with this lens.

With the CV15 at even the largest aperture everything from 1m to infinity will be in focus anyway. And if you stop down, you only need to twiddle the focus if you are doing extreme closeups.

I had one for a while. Seriously, it's very difficult to mis-focus this lens. It was too wide for the type of photography I was doing at the time so I sold it. But it's a good lens and if you like wides then this baby is for you. I've also heard good things about the 12mm.

If you think something is wrong with your copy don't hesitate to exchange it for another. In my experience Voigtlander seems to suffer from sample variation.

I had the earlier 15mm Voightlander on a Panasonic 4/3 before I got an M9. It sucked to the extent that I thought I had a defective lens. I did not.

It performed wonderfully on an M9 and M4. Panasonic's zoom wide lens which included 15mm performed even better. I am guessing that Panasonic made in-camera adjustments informed via electronically coupled lens.

So it appears that Leica is applying intelligent corrections. When I use the VC 15mm I tell the M9 it is an early 21mm. It is not as good, but commendable.

In all, as an old man I find these gyrations tedious. I still have thousands of feet of film to use. Going back to film, i am Pico.
