i have 50 cron v4 uncoded, if i code it with some permanent marker, is there any image quality improvement?

Search in the threads with M8, M9 and M with regard to which camera you have.

 

On M8 a big difference also since you should use UV/IR filters.

On M9 and M mostly to avoid not getting the files adjusted to a wrongly setting if set for a wide angle lens, to much correction will be applied...

50 mm is about the break-even point for corrections.

No, there is no such thing as a "break-even point" for M lens corrections. Even the 135 mm lenses benefit from being coded. Coding basically has three effects: (1) lens type, focal length, and lens speed will automatically appear in the images' metadata, (2) vignetting will be reduced, and (3) red or magenta colour casts at the frames' edges will be reduced or eliminated.

 

If (3) is no issue with the lens at hand then having it recognised by the camera is optional. If it's an issue then having it recognised is virtually mandatory because manually removing those colour casts in post-processing is a pain in the ... rear end. Not impossible to do but very tedious and difficult to get right. CornerFix is a great help for this but requires additional steps in the workflow. In contrast, dealing with point (2) in post-processing is a piece of cake so having it taken care of automatically is nice but not mandatory. Finally, point (1) is totally irrelevant for image quality.

 

As lenses with a focal length of 50 mm or longer usually don't suffer from the red edge problem—see point (3) above—it's often said that having them coded is not required. And rightly so. Still, this does not mean these lenses would not benefit from being recognised by the camera at all. "Not required" is not the same as "doesn't make any sense."

I did not see any on my bodies (M8.2, M240) so i let it uncoded.

Unfortunately you didn't mention the camera on which you use your lens. The M9 and M are able to apply the function for lens detection without having to read the code. The code is necessary when lens detection is set on "auto" in the menue.

 

If you have an M9 or M set lens detection to "manual" in the menue, choose your lens ("50 f2 11819/etc."); so you can try whether you see any difference if you compare it to the results when you had lens detection on "off".
