rramesh Posted August 2, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted August 2, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) So it seems that Panasonic and Leica have launched a 'Nocticron'. Â Why? Â LEICA DG NOCTICRON 42.5mm F1.2 | PhotographyBLOG
Advertisement Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Hi rramesh, Take a look here Nocticron. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted August 2, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted August 2, 2013 Because it is a 4/3rds lens and Leica is only involved in the design of the lens. A matter of licensing and branding.
elgenper Posted August 2, 2013 Share #3  Posted August 2, 2013 So now, we are just waiting for the ´Noctarit´......
earleygallery Posted August 2, 2013 Share #4 Â Posted August 2, 2013 Why? Â Â I think the answer is that they are both in the business of selling lenses and think that they can make some money from this product.
Ecar Posted August 2, 2013 Share #5 Â Posted August 2, 2013 Rather ugly name for a lens. Would be better suited to a man-eating beast in one of those low-budget horror movies for teenagers than to an optical device IMO.
250swb Posted August 2, 2013 Share #6 Â Posted August 2, 2013 Why? Â Undoubtedly it will be a fine lens if the m4/3 Summilux is anything to go by, but m4/3 doesn't really need fast lenses because it has image stabilisation and they have pretty much sorted out the problems with noise at high ISO with new sensor technology (both Olympus and their Sony sensors, and Panasonic using their own). Except, with m4/3 the DOF is double that of a FF sensor, so it is difficult to get truly shallow DOF, unless you have a very fast lens, and at 42.5mm (85mm equiv. on a FF) it suggests this is aimed at portraitists. lct Posted August 2, 2013 Share #8 Â Posted August 2, 2013 How would you call a new 50/1.2 for Leica M folks?
250swb Posted August 2, 2013 Share #9  Posted August 2, 2013 I'd call it expensive  Steve

farnz Posted August 2, 2013 Share #11 Â Posted August 2, 2013 Perhaps it should have been called Notacron. Â Pete.
k-hawinkler Posted August 2, 2013 Share #12 Â Posted August 2, 2013 So, effectively an 85 mm f/1.2 for my OMD! What's not to like. I couldn't care less what they call it. Â Is there such a lens, namely 85/1.2, available in M mount? Â My assumption is that lens has enough Leica in it that one could post on this forum images produced with it, correct? And AF presumably. lct Posted August 2, 2013 Share #13 Â Posted August 2, 2013 Equivalent to 85/2.4 FoV and DoF wise. Something like the Summarit-M 90/2.5 perhaps.
k-hawinkler Posted August 2, 2013 Share #14 Â Posted August 2, 2013 Equivalent to 85/2.4 FoV and DoF wise. Something like the Summarit-M 90/2.5 perhaps. Â Â Thanks. I agree with you on the 85/2.4 DoF wise. FoV doesn't depend on aperture, or does it? Light sensitivity wise though 85/1.2, right?
NZDavid Posted August 2, 2013 Share #15 Â Posted August 2, 2013 Which would be worst, Crepusculux or Nocticron? Â Don't go out after dark, the Nocticron will get you! Â The Crepusculux patrols deserted beaches and mountain peaks at dusk. It will get you before you reach the Summarit. Â Also beware of the T-Summarex, it's a monster! BenMathes Posted August 3, 2013 Share #17 Â Posted August 3, 2013 I had to have my Crepusculux removed a while back I had Crepusculuxitis and they performed a Crepuscluximy on me. Â It was painful, but I no longer have Noctricons- Â Life is good!
farnz Posted August 3, 2013 Share #18 Â Posted August 3, 2013 The Nocticron sounds to me like one of Doctor Who's foes, which is a living fungus that stealthily grows on its prey and then steadily dissolves them*. I think I'd rather face the Cybermen or the Daleks any day! Â Pete. *A bit like Necrotising Fasciitis
mjh Posted August 4, 2013 Share #19 Â Posted August 4, 2013 Undoubtedly it will be a fine lens if the m4/3 Summilux is anything to go by, but m4/3 doesn't really need fast lenses because it has image stabilisation and they have pretty much sorted out the problems with noise at high ISO with new sensor technology On the contrary, Micro FourThirds does need fast lenses since DoF-wise they are at a disadvantage compared to both 35 mm (2 f-stops) and APS-C (1 f-stop). From a DoF perspective the Nocticron is more like a Summarit.
