IWC Doppel Posted July 20, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted July 20, 2013 They are having a laugh at that price, it was a joke at list !
BishT Posted July 20, 2013 Share #4 Posted July 20, 2013 I ordered one of these hoods from PopFlash a few weeks ago, and received the new plastic hood (that comes with the Summicron 28mm) instead. I was disappointed that I didn't get the old round metal hood, but the plastic hood does the job. If you decide to order one of these hoods you may want to contact the shop personally to ensure you get the one you really want.
gjames9142 Posted July 20, 2013 Share #5 Posted July 20, 2013 I got one from Jean from Leica Boutique in Montreal. He laughingly calls it the Robin hood.
MarkP Posted July 20, 2013 Share #6 Posted July 20, 2013 It's a really nice hood. I bought it two years ago for my 2.0/28 Summicron ASPH for half that price and thought it was outrageous even then. However, at the time I didn't think that a $300 hood for a $4000 lens was really that bad. This price really just reflects supply & demand.. Popflash is a excellent and reputable Leica dealer. egrossman Posted July 21, 2013 Share #7 Posted July 21, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I lost the original hood to my 28mm Summicron a while ago. I've procrastinated over buying the replacement vented hood due to what I thought was it's rediculous price of $350 at the time. I was as surprised as anyone to hear about it being discontinued. I certainly wouldn't pay $600 for it from Popflash. Luckily, after doing a little digging online, today I just scored a "like new" copy of the 12466 hood from KEH for $350. Almost seems like a bargain now . KEH has one more 12466 hood in stock as of writing this post in EX+ condition for $325. Erik
Guest malland Posted July 21, 2013 Share #8 Posted July 21, 2013 I needed to replace the hood for my Summicron-28 but couldn't swallow the cost of the 12466, which I think is ridiculous. Instead I bought a US$30 no-name hood that is metal, screw-in and of Chinese manufacture. Looks and feels good and am happy with it. —Mitch/Pak Nam Pran Bangkok Obvious [WIP] Eggleston said that he was "at war with the obvious"...

BishT Posted July 21, 2013 Share #10 Posted July 21, 2013 I just noticed that PopFlash is selling the old-style metal hood on the bay for the buy-it-now price of $627.00. I guess that's why they sent me the plastic hood instead of the metal hood pictured in their online catalog.
ymc226 Posted July 22, 2013 Share #11 Posted July 22, 2013 LEICA REPLACEMENT LENS HOOD #12466 NEW! DESIGNED FOR THE OLD LEICA 35MM F/1.4 & 28MM F/2 + F/2.8 LENSES! Wow! I can't believe it's that much now. Just last year, I bought the 2 of the same hoods from Popflash for about $300 each if I remember correctly. They look much better on my non FLE 35 Lux ASPH and 28 Cron ASPH than the original supplied hoods.
IWC Doppel Posted July 22, 2013 Author Share #12 Posted July 22, 2013 I have manage to pick one up less than list, still a silly price but I've wanted one for a while now. I was going to put it on my Xmas list ! Totally unjustifiable, I won't find any 'excuses' I just plain fancied one
sdk Posted July 23, 2013 Share #13 Posted July 23, 2013 It is a very nice hood, but I got mine for $300. $600 is far too much.
Bill W Posted July 24, 2013 Share #14 Posted July 24, 2013 I sure am glad that some of my new "crappy" lens have a built in hood.

MarkP Posted July 24, 2013 Share #16 Posted July 24, 2013 For those of you who haven't seen the #12466 hood on the 35mm Summilux & camera Dirk posted on this page some time ago. That thread also reminded me that I paid $400, not $300 as I'd stated above . http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/customer-forum/193311-m9-28-summicron-asph-3.html

egrossman Posted July 27, 2013 Share #19 Posted July 27, 2013 I received my "Like New" 12466 hood in the mail from KEH. It was essentially brand new in the box and priced at the old list price (before the hood was discontinued). I think it looks rather nice and certainly better than that plastic monstrosity that ships with the 28mm Summicron . Erik Welcome, dear visitor! IkarusJohn Posted July 28, 2013 Share #20 Posted July 28, 2013 That thread also reminded me that I paid $400, not $300 as I'd stated above . I paid USD 359 from mine two years ago - it looks very nice and works well. It is pretty much always in my bag or on my camera (I prefer the 28-50 combination, though I am trying 35-75 for a change just now). When I bought the hood, I did feel it was a bit silly.
