HeinzX Posted July 3, 2013 Share #1  Posted July 3, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello,  today I have tried my new M 240 with high ISOs. The following photograph was taken at ISO 1600, app. 4.0 together with my M-Macro Elmar 90 mm without tripod and is a moderate crop. For focussing the Live View was used. Pictures like this are easier to make with my 5 D III - but it is possible to use the M 240 without too big efforts. The Live View helps a lot. Welcome, dear visitor! Karl G Posted July 3, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted July 3, 2013 Heinz, very pretty flower. I have found the M(240) needs the saturations in the reds and magenta dialed back from the OOC raw. This is actually common with digital, including the M9 but the reduction is more with the 240. Congratulations on the new M. It really is a wonderful camera. dkCambridgeshire Posted July 3, 2013 Share #3  Posted July 3, 2013 Difficult subject to capture with any camera - more so when the camera is handheld. Your picture is a good effort but needs more depth of field; there's a lot of depth to the central column and lip which could be more evident with a smaller aperture and different angles. And additional lighting might help; maybe a reflector could throw some light back into the central lip and column. I've experimented with back lighting orchids and obtained good results. Not all orchids make good photographic subjects; some are better than others and each usually needs a lighting tweak to bring out its particular form/beauty. Some have a translucence which is not immediately evident but can be explored if it's there.  You have a super lens and live view to experiment with. If you put the camera on a tripod and also use a focusing rail to nail the best point of focus you might be surprised at the results ... especially if you can improve the lighting with a reflector. I've used a hand held small lightbox (slide viewer) to illuminate the column ... and also used large lighboxes to backlight the flowers and show their translucency.  Possibilities with orchids are endless and it's worth the time and effort to explore them - to try and obtain the optimum result.  And if you are not averse to picking a flower stem the blooms can be isolated from the background.   Best wishes  dunk
HeinzX Posted July 3, 2013 Author Share #4  Posted July 3, 2013 Hi Peter,  this was just a trial with the new M 240 - with the 5 D III and the R Macro Elmarit 60 cm things are easier - but I am looking forward using this lens on the M 240 when the Adapter arrives. An example with the 5 D III and the R lens mentioned above: Welcome, dear visitor!
