Photos are of interest to Star Wars enthusiasts ... especially those converting the now very rare original MPP Microflash units to Darth Vader Light Sabers ... and who enjoy examining / documenting the various parts variations. .

X Vario continues to be a most useful notebook camera ... often used with Leitz Elpro c/u lenses enabling up to life size imaging

Also at Swaddywell on same evening I spotted a 'web' of caterpillars .. subsequently identified as a very scarce Small Eggar Moth caterpillar ... and a new species to the reserve ...

X Vario fitted with modified Leitz Elpro VIa "2.51 diopter" achromatic close-up lens ... light was poor so was supplemented with XV's built-in flash ... photo taken at the reserve's car park entrance

The X-Vario is such a valuable and enduring camera, which Leica should be proud to have introduced. But are unlikely to, for fear of diluting sales of newer kit.

Far too much very unwarranted XV negativity from naysayers when introduced ... including from Leica Forum ''armchair camera designer" members who'd never used it, and did not understand its design philosophy, and its capabilities.

Advised by botanist Sarah Lambert that: "This is a hybrid between Common Spotted-orchid and one of the marsh-orchids, most likely Southern Marsh-orchid Dactylorhiza praetermissa" ... TYVM Sarah.

Swaddywell Nature Reserve near Peterborough UK (John Clare country) Common Spotted Orchids backlit by early evening Sun 16 June 2022. Leica X Vario, Manfrotto 190CX Pro4 compact tripod/Linhof ball head.

The XV was the world's first APS-C compact zoom camera. Unfortunately the X Vario was given a very negative reception when first released by those who did not understand its design philosophy ... many of whom never used the camera and criticised it 'out of hand'. Nowadays it's a 'cult camera' and sought after ... and commands a premium secondhand price.
