Nick De Marco Posted June 14, 2013 Share #1  Posted June 14, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) As followers of my blog will know I'm a bog fan of the Zeiss 21mm Biogon f2.8 - see my latest entry where I tried it with my new M..... Rangefinder Chronicles: Further Reflections on the Leica M (Typ 240) - Review 2, April 2013 (and one pic below)  It is such a high quality, sharp lens - and not too big - with minimum distortion. In fact i sold an sold 21mm f2.8 Elmarit (pre-asph) to buy it and never regretted it (the Zeiss really is better).  As you can tell from my photos on my latest blog the 21 Biogon excels also on the M (T240). I have no complaints about it...  BUT - I can't say I am not tempted by this new Voigtlander 21mm f1.8. I have read stunning reviews of if (including Rockwell/Huff, who, whilst both sometimes prone to hyperbole don't usually rate CV lenses so highly), and heard it compared to the 21 Summilux which is beautiful but bigger and far too expensive (I love Thorsten O's use of the 21 Lux with the M)...  I'm now seriously considering buying the CV 21 for low light/big bokeh wide work. Does anyone have any experience of how it compares to the Zeiss and/or how it performs on the M?  Thanks in advance  Nick Welcome, dear visitor! MikeEvangelist Posted June 16, 2013 Share #3  Posted June 16, 2013 I haven't gotten my 240 yet, but 21mm 1.8 is stunning on my M9. Welcome, dear visitor! jow Posted June 19, 2013 Share #4 Â Posted June 19, 2013 I posted some samples of my CV21 1.8 at another forum. Here are a few test shots taken with M240 at various distances. On the M240 you could use live view/EVF or scale focus to shoot at 0.5m MFD for even more subject separation. Â Â Â Â Â Â I sold my ZM21/2.8 Biogon after buying a CV 21/1.8. My ZM21/2.8 had red color shift on the right side on my M240. I haven't seen color shifts with the CV 21 1.8/ M240 combo in day to day shooting. Yes, the 21Lux is better overall and has more subject separation and the 21SEM is sharper overall if you don't need speed, but I find the CV21/1.8 a good compromise for the price with acceptable sharpness. Negatives - its quite large and hood is not removable. There is a nice write up here by Ron Scheffler who owns the 21Lux, 21Biogon, 21SEM and the CV21 1.8 http://www.ronscheffler.com/techtalk/?page_id=
