Northwest Wanderer Posted June 9, 2013 Share #1  Posted June 9, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was lucky enough to take this image of a Grizzly Bear and one of her cubs. She was in a clearing with her three new cubs and was teaching them how to dig up roots. Thanks to the zoom range of the V-LUX4, I was able to take this image from the safety of my vehicle. Northwest Wanderer Posted June 9, 2013 Author Share #7 Â Posted June 9, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks Paul, Karl & K-H Â Paul, I only cropped a very small amount from the top of the image. I'd figure I was about 200 yards from the bear. I took the shot with the V-LUX4 zoomed out to 600mm. You really have to respect these big bears. Â Karl, the trip has been enjoyable. I think I'll have some good landscape images to post in the future.
kaethe Posted June 9, 2013 Share #8 Â Posted June 9, 2013 What a great catch, and mom definitely has you in her sight. Did you drive off quickly after you got the shot? Were you alone on the roadside, or was there a cluster of folks gathered for the sighting. kaethe

Were you alone on the roadside, or was there a cluster of folks gathered for the sighting.kaethe  Thanks Kaethe,Henry & Mike.  Kaethe, We spotted the bear and her cubs while driving down the highway. They were about 200 yards away in a clearing. We stayed in our vehicle (motor running). Seeing us stopped others saw the bears and also stopped. She was fine until a couple of people got out of their vehicles (unbelievable) to take photos. She sniffed the air a few times and decided to gather her three cubs and go back into the brush. I can see how people with no animal sense get bears in trouble.
Michael Geschlecht Posted June 10, 2013 Share #12 Â Posted June 10, 2013 Hello Bill, Â Nice photo. Â You are right. Cuddly looking as threy are: People who see a Brown Bear should think: As dangerous as an African Lion. Except: A Brown Bear is bigger & probably faster than an African Lion. Â Best Regards, Â Michael

Northwest Wanderer Posted June 10, 2013 Author Share #16 Â Posted June 10, 2013 Thank you Bill. I'm finding that with time I'm able to take some interesting photos with the V-LUX4. It allows me to take some images I would not have gotten without its zoom capabilities. It's an interesting camera.

fotografr Posted June 11, 2013 Share #20 Â Posted June 11, 2013 Great shot! I'd have been so nervous the camera would have been shaking. I had a grizzly encounter several years ago while hiking in Yellowstone and it was enough to last me a lifetime. Scared the bejeebers out of me.
