Grizzly Bear, Grand Teton National Park

I was lucky enough to take this image of a Grizzly Bear and one of her cubs. She was in a clearing with her three new cubs and was teaching them how to dig up roots. Thanks to the zoom range of the V-LUX4, I was able to take this image from the safety of my vehicle.

Bill, that is a wonderful shot and glad you can make it safely. It must have been a marvelous experience watching that scene. I hope the rest of your journey and vacation goes enjoyably and safely as well.

Thanks Paul, Karl & K-H

Paul, I only cropped a very small amount from the top of the image. I'd figure I was about 200 yards from the bear. I took the shot with the V-LUX4 zoomed out to 600mm. You really have to respect these big bears.

Karl, the trip has been enjoyable. I think I'll have some good landscape images to post in the future.

What a great catch, and mom definitely has you in her sight. Did you drive off quickly after you got the shot? Were you alone on the roadside, or was there a cluster of folks gathered for the sighting.

Thanks Kaethe,Henry & Mike.

Kaethe,

We spotted the bear and her cubs while driving down the highway. They were about 200 yards away in a clearing. We stayed in our vehicle (motor running). Seeing us stopped others saw the bears and also stopped. She was fine until a couple of people got out of their vehicles (unbelievable) to take photos. She sniffed the air a few times and decided to gather her three cubs and go back into the brush. I can see how people with no animal sense get bears in trouble.

Great shot! I'd have been so nervous the camera would have been shaking. I had a grizzly encounter several years ago while hiking in Yellowstone and it was enough to last me a lifetime. Scared the bejeebers out of me.
