Nick_S Posted June 7, 2013 Share #1 Posted June 7, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm looking at super-wide angle lenses to experiment with on the Leica Monochrom camera. As all my lenses so far have a 39mm filter thread, I was thinking about the Voigtländer Color-Skopar 21mm f/4 and the Color-Skopar 25mm f/4 lenses. Are there any clear advantages of one over the other, e.,g., quality issues, flare, excessive vignetting, uneven illumination on the Monochrom etc., and how do folks like them? Advertisement Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Hi Nick_S, Take a look here Voigtländer 21mm f/4 or 25mm f/4 lenses. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted June 7, 2013 Share #2 Posted June 7, 2013 I owned both on film Ms in their screw thread versions. Both were very good, but I preferred the 21mm. I never did any comparative tests, but I felt it offered slightly the better image quality. That could just have been sample variation. What I'd suggest is buy the one that fits into your existing lenses focal lengths, or just choose the one whose focal length you prefer. Both are good lenses. michali Posted June 9, 2013 Share #3 Posted June 9, 2013 My experience is the same as Steve's, the 21mm I feel has better image quality. Here are 2 images taken with the C/V 21mm & Monochrom. tobey bilek Posted June 10, 2013 Share #4 Posted June 10, 2013 My 25, bought new, has centering issues and corners are soft even at F8.. I think it will be a bin candidate because I would not feel right selling it.

I have the 25/4 and it's a superb lens, one of my favourites in fact.

Thanks for these examples. I like the second image very much, including the nice "sun stars" in the centre. Nick
plewislambert Posted June 14, 2013 Share #7 Posted June 14, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I used both these lenses on an M4-P and the results were good. On an M9 the 21mm caused edge discolouration and vignetting due apparently to the rear glass being very close to the sensor. I made the images usable with the Cornerfix program but digital noise was noticeable. I never used the 25mm on a digital Leica. Currently as I no longer have the Voigtlander lenses I use a 17mm f3.5 Tokina and a 20mm f2.8 Nikkor on the M9 with Chinese adapters. Focusing is by guess but it works. The 17mm Tokina gets used more than the Nikkor (which I shall sell as I prefer the widest angle for church interiors). It needs to be used between f5.6 and f11 for max sharpness. A 17mm Tamron SP performed less well on an M9. I should prefer to use only Leica ultrawide lenses but not at Leitz prices. Philip
jaques Posted June 15, 2013 Share #8 Posted June 15, 2013 the 21mm Skopar is a fantastic tiny little lens. I am sure the 24mm is too but I have 28mm already so 21mm was the next wide step for me: Welcome, dear visitor! leafster Posted June 24, 2013 Share #9 Posted June 24, 2013 Nice photos Jaques! I have been wanting a wide angle lens for my M9P, and currently looking at 21mm Skopar and 15mm / F 4,5 Super Wide Heliar. Both are popular and receive positive feedback.
