The title says it, but I have a 1993 50mm/2 which I dearly love. Small, fast, sharp. However it has developed the usual and annoying front focus. Good up close but progressively more front focus towards infinity.

For a while I have also been thinking about having it 6bit coded. My dealer says that the process of 6bit coding, when done in germany, includes "focus adjustment for M8/M9". Beyond that he can offer no explanation or confirmation.

Does this mean I can get a "free" focus adjustment with the price of a 6bit coding?

Anyone had this done and can confirm this?

Otherwise the lens is very clean and tight. And minty type 4 lenses are hard to come by so I am not replacing it (unless a AA50 comes my way). I have other lenses and they are all bang on as far as I can see. I have tried with and without filters and there seems to be no difference.

As I understand it, their normal practice is to do an initial assessment of whatever Leica item sent on receipt and provide an estimate if more work is required than initially requested.

Standard policy is that a lens or body sent is checked and serviced to specification as part of any servicing and warranty thereafter is on the comlete item. Unless they noted something that could not be rectified practically/within cost limits in any estimate sent to you. Just for examples if a camera body had corrosion they may be able to get it working but not guarantee tht the corrosion might not return or if a lens had damage/fungus internally perhaps.

I would suggest that you just ask Customer Service when you book in the lens of course.
