Hi Joshua, that’s a lovely picture, thanks for posting.

You are using, IMO, the lens that should be called the “bokeh king”. I’ve never used one, but pictures I’ve seen taken using that lens have an indefinable magic about them- yours included. What software do you use to edit your digitised pictures? There are many tools in Photoshop that will correct that yellow cast - even “auto tone” will often get very close, or there are the eye droppers under “Levels” that can eliminate a lot of the cast, then there are the “Color balance” sliders and so on. If you have access to Photoshop, I’d recommend having a bit of a play around because you’ll  find something that works.

I promise not to harp on about it anymore, but here is your picture after simply applying "auto tone" in Photoshop:

Little did I realize that, shortly after taking that last charming shot (the very next frame in fact), I was to become part of the show with my new cobra necktie:

I seem to recall that the show finished with a smaller snake being shoved down the front of my jeans. Talk about laugh!

Thank you!!! This is much better. I scan in Silverfast and do my post-processing in Lightroom CC. For whatever reason, I just could not get Lightroom to deliver a result like the one you just posted. It simply never occurred to me to try in Photoshop, which I very rarely use. I just tried it and got the same result you posted. A huge improvement. I'll do the same with all my pictures from the 105 now on. Thanks again!

On the 105: it really is an extraordinary lens. I don't have the best eyesight and II find it pretty difficult to focus accurately at f/2.4, especially in dynamic situations; it's not uncommon for me to shoot a whole roll of ten pictures on and get only a few in focus. So it's an expensive lens to use, but quite lovely when it works.

Thanks again for the helpful edit!

An absolute pleasure Joshua, and thanks again for posting. Perhaps the 105 was one of the lenses constructed using thorium in the glass? I have a Canon lens from the early 1970s that has yellowed due to the thorium in the glass. If so you can "bleach" out the yellow by exposing the lens to strong UV light for a couple of days.

But either way please keep using it, it's a wonderful lens.

Coming as you do from the land of Tiger Snake, Black Snake, Eastern Brown, Western Brown, Dugite, Taipan and others too numerous to mention I am surprised you were not running in the other direction as fast as possible, leaving your camera behind; or did you hand the camera to someone else to record what you thought might be your last moments on earth?

Don't worry John, I was crapping myself alright. And, yes, I gave my camera over to a friend in the sure knowledge that I wouldn't be needing it any more.

Nice!

I just was struggling with a roll of Portra 160 that came out yellow and underexposed. Really strange because the Portra 400 roll I developed at the very same time is spot-on color wise. The 400 was shot with a Nikon and the Nikon 24 f/2.8; the 160 with a Leica and the 35 Lux FLE--a lens that normally renders brilliantly. It was a head scratcher.

After seeing you photo, I checked the FLE: I had never removed my yellow filter! At least that solves my mystery.

Yeah ... damn yellow filters! This is Portra 400. It does look good in BW though 😂 And food was good.

These two converted to B&W from Portra 160 after I left my yellow filter on my 35 Lux FLE and M4-P.

Nice shot. That 28/2 VC Ultron is an outstanding lens. When Voigtlander gets it right.........

Best,

Wayne

Thanks. I'm pretty happy with the lens. This is the new version, I think from 2021. I could not justify another Summicron.
