I can relate to this-but, if you change your mind-frame, the Hassi is very much suited for street too...as is the Rollei MF and other MFs...

I think that where medium format, and waist-level finders in particular, have an advantage for street photography is people's unfamiliarity with them and their uncertainty over what the photographer is actually looking at.  Of course, that's weighed against an over-large camera/lens pointed straight at them!   I suspect that people these days watch you pointing a camera and if you don't check on the LCD screen afterwards, you probably haven't taken a picture!  I mean, what's all that strange winding action going on?? :D  I just need to get more brazen with my subjects...

😳Sigh, I,ll put the essay on my shortlist. You did it again ..😃

Me, too!

Really, though, thanks for the suggestion(along with the Albers book). My wife is worried about what I'm going to do when I retire next June. Catching up on a huge backlog(which is growing) of reading is going to a pleasant part of it.

Rog,  Your titles are as intriguing as your amazingly unique work!  I think I might even get this one.  🤔

Thanks so much for making me think on so many levels!

I am intrigued, Roger.  Many of your pieces, like the one above, look like photomontages, yet a few more recently have looked more like single images (if you know what I mean?!).  Am I right or have I been misinterpreting?

Thanks for posting these videos, Pete. He certainly has a cheerful and engaging way of talking about photography. But I am baffled about 1) his decision to outsource scanning, 2) inability to colour correct himself, and 3) turn to using an Epson flatbed when apparently Aztek "got it wrong" (though I doubt that can be said because colour is almost infinitely correctable on a computer). I just don't get his workflow. If he's a "fine art photographer" who shoots film why would he ever give up control over the whole chain from picture-taking to print? Makes. No. Sense (to me, but perhaps I'm just one of those who likes getting sh*t done myself).

I, and I'm sure everyone here, like your photos so keep them coming.

Now, I'm going to share something with everyone and I hope you'll all embrace him. Nick Carver. I don't subscribe to many YouTube channels (in fact I will have to look to see if I have subscribed to ANY others) but I subscribe to Nick Carver's. I enjoy his sense of humour and his videos are informative. I'm sure I've posted an excellent video of his regarding using Silverfast (I think the title of the video made it sound as though it related only to Epson scanners but it doesn't). In this video we see him photographing a liquor store, and in the second video we see him having it printed large. Set aside some time to watch these, maybe with a glass of whisky when the wife is out, and have a look through his other videos; they're a joy to watch.

Pete

Great shot Marc, really awesome.

Your lady pictures are getting better and better Marc, I really enjoy when they tell a story and invite the viewer to interpret, like this one does.

There was lamentation earlier about Adox Color Implosion's impending demise. But fear not! There are other ways - like using...Ektar.

This was shot it in Tbilisi in February this year and I haven't got the foggiest what happened here. Two frames on the roll look like this. It's got to have been a scanning glitch. Still it looks pretty cool I think. The second frame I shot is below to give you the real-life look of the scene.

Thanks for your perceptive comments. Yes, indeed, my work is principally centered on photo constructions that play color and texture in variation. Very few of my studies are single images. Of course, I have more control orchestrating contrasts and complements of color and form, this way. All of this heads in the direction of making a visual statement that plays with the emotional tone of color. If I can balance on the tightrope of metaphor, all the better. My working mode, then, flies in the face of HCB's "decisive moment." My decisive moment is just getting up in the morning.

Cheers,
Rog
