Big Blue Trees (Version 1)

2019-09-14-00014 by Marc Tauber, on Flickr

I shot this at or close to the minimum focal distance of the DR......you can get into trouble with this thing if you're not paying attention....there were bees flying all around my head.

  • Leica M3 / Portra 400
  • 50 DR Summicron w/goggles on
  • Unicolor C41 Press Kit
  • LS-9000

beautiful colors!  I had some very successful experiences shooting flowers with my DR and goggles.  The wind is not your friend, though, and it seems to always gain in strength just as I want to take a snap 😓

Thanks Adam, I can see how wind would be a problem.  In this case it was dead calm, however I had a lot of bees to contend with...they didn't seem to mind me all that much.

This is getting so film noir, especially since I just finished watching Key Largo for the umpteenth time. Yeah, you checked on the guy, but you didn't say whether he was still ALIVE! I mean, didn't four hours pass since you took that first shot in front of all those witnesses? Are you going to do a time-lapse of the kids on the beach burying this soul, lost to the world, up to his nostrils in sand? Is Phil going to arrange for a Bernard Herrmann sound track?

past tense, yes, but something precious from the past, may be excavated by a pot hunter.... and now hastily unwrapped from a toxic paper in the dark corner of the parking lot to sell it to the salivating  collector...an early canvas of Josef Albers, or was it his  cloth to wipe the brushes ?  Anyway, a priceless find.... compared only to the  Shakespeare Folio with Miltons annotations ... 😯😀

This photo is for sure not perfect: maybe too much space over the head, maybe an unusual point of view. But I did not want to crop it or to change something. As a whole, I like it a lot (but like always it is a matter of personal taste)

M6, Tmax 3200 (with ISO 1600), Apo 50

Ahh, benqui, perfection is a bourgeois concept anyway..😁😂    No, seriously, being a perfectionist myself--this is as close to perfection as I can  imagine...

I agree with Rog, the empty space works. And I like that she actually expresses some undefined emotion (longing? despair?). Plus hands are always difficult in portraiture but here they add to the image and strengthen it a lot. So two thumbs up Typhoo Tea from me.

Terrific results Marc, really good stuff with a 50mm lens.

Sublime tones and composition, John. Having followed Chris (Moss's) tip and develop all my XP2 in HC110 I am wondering if that would work with BW400CN too - has anyone tried?

No post processing (yet) - straight from scanner. Film would have been processed pretty soon after exposure but has been languishing in its sleeve until today.

Similar to version 1, this has a bit more color and taken slightly further away.  Curious to see your opinions....thanks.
