that's funny, Rog.  I do remember how slippery those boulders were and how high the tide was and how windy it was and how I thought that any moment I could be swallowed by the crashing waters and how dumb I would look bringing home to my wife all my gear soaking wet with gashes in my legs from the struggle to stay on top of the boulders as I spit out those tiny crabs that live in between the boulders.   😉

But I survived.  And I wish Crocs was there to pay me for the free advertising.  :)

Dynamite narrative! So, you are talking yourself into AdamDrone? Will AdamDrone work the franchise with Bat Man. Is that a Croc, or what? Loving the metaphor, "swallowed by crashing waters," and the "gashes in my legs" harmonizing with "those tiny crabs in between the boulders." Okay, you've got the start of your Prime Video, season 1, so who's going to play your sympathetic/unsympathetic wife?

Seriously (or even Ernestly), your panoramas are important work.

I really like the mixture of the different people, some look very traditional and other very modern. What is the background, is it at the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem?

Hi Jesse, I know the place and like your picture... would you mind to comment the technical background; particularly  how did you achieve the grainless look ?

By hand. I have a 2-reel Paterson tank. When I have only one reel to develop, up until now, I used a twiddle stick method: 2 clockwise twiddles followed by 2 anti-clockwise twiddles and then a further single clockwise twiddle, and doing this inside of 5 seconds. With 2 reels, more recently I've been doing 2 complete inversions, rotating the tank as I go, in 5 seconds. I used to do one such inversion. In both cases, continuous agitation for the 1st 30 seconds and then as described above, every 30 seconds thereon.

The method I'm trying now is recommended by a Flickr friend who always seems to get excellent detailed results, and he does the following with PMK Pyro, which usually gets a complete fitness centre work out with "rigorous" agitations/bangings on tables, etc., every 15 seconds. He does the following: holding the top of the tank with one hand he angles the tank with the other at a starting point of 70º and immediately makes a gentle figure of 8 swishing motion with the tank. He does 2 such motions every minute, on the minute, after an initial 30 seconds of continuous figure of eight swishes. My variation using D76, was to do 1 figure of 8 swish every 30 seconds after the initial 30 secs of continual movement. I'm going to try 2 on the minute on the next roll I develop.

Cheers

Thanks for the detailed response; looking forward to seeing the results.   I've been using HC-110 (B) for some time in a Jobo 1500 tank, rolling it one direction on a Beseler roller.  I typically shoot and develop Tri-X pushed stop 1, roll it at 20c for 8:30sec,  occasionally for 12:45sec (extra 1/2 stop) depending what I want to do with the highlights.

I always used Fujifilm Sensia, it was good and cheap. The 100 ISO sold in a 5- pack and there was also ISO 200 and 400 available. Sadly, all discontinued and I switched to Agfaphoto CT Precisa and Fujifilm Provia 400 X meanwhile all also discontinued but still have some rolls in the freezer.

Best

And 2 more. The 1st is recomposed colour from 3 hand-held B&W photos, one with each filter (red, green blue). The second is a simulation of a triple hand-held exposure on each filter (i duplicated each layer twice in Gimp and did a "random" displacement and rotation.

Wow. But what is it?

I fully agree with you re the internal metering. I don't think my 203 has ever failed me. I considered adding a 205 as a backup and to have the spot meter. Might still happen but I need to increase my bench press performance to be able to carry the larger camera bag :D

thank you philipus. I was a bit reluctant to throw in this picture-at first glance I thought the white sky  was more a failing than a feature..but then I remembered   Bernd & Hilla Bechers series of  furnaces and water towers...all deliberately taken  on bright hazy days without any visible clouds resulting in pictures with  a white sky. I remember having read they used blue filters sometimes...   In regard to the exposure: imho there is hardly anything  better  than  the internal metering of the HB 203 and 205 for reflected light-but to be sure I like to go to the  incident light value of my Seikonic additionally.... as in this case. So no layers or masks here--just as it came from the roll.

Just great Klaus. And on a technical note I like how you've treated the highlights in the clouds. Brilliant shot.

OK, a bit of a party trick here.

I'm still experimenting with sucking the maximum of tonal range out of TMax 400 with my contrasty new Mamiya 6 lenses. This is not necessarily the best final rendering of this subject, just an attempt to hold everything from yellow-hot light bulb filaments to matte-black electronic gear, in a space with patchy lighting. In both the neg and in the final treatment.

Mamiya 6, 50mm f/4 Sekor G, TMax 400, developed in Rodinal 1:50 for 11.5 minutes at 20°C - agitated once every 90 seconds. Reflection-metered off the floor with a handheld Sekonic, set to 400 ISO - exposure 1/15th sec at f/4, handheld (ahh, the joys of a leaf-shutter rangefinder!)

Scanned with my 2003 Epson 3200 with soft-panel illumination, via Vuescan (profile for TMax 100 CI 0.70) to a .DNG file, with adjustments in both Adobe Camera Raw and Photoshop (but simple stuff - no HDR or combining scans).

My fingers are easily my most photographed body part. He seems quite impressed by yours :D
