Thank you. The room was dark, with spotlights directed to the painting, so I measured the exposure for the paintings on the wall and put the camera on floor for this photo.

I was also pleased by the clarity of the lens.

So wonderfully eerie, if a colour shot can actually be eerie. And I just like saying, well writing, that word. English is great in the same way French is because it has so many unnecessary letters if necessity is defined by whether or not a letter is actually spoken. Well my association on this Implosion of colour fields is that it represents the contrail of an aircraft crossing a large body of water between two continents :) Really excellent Rog.

 

Yes, "a colour shot can actually be eerie." Phil picked up on the David Lynch feeling going on here, and it reminds me of the Larry Sultan/Mike Mandel Evidence book Phil recommended. "Eerie" photographs, some similar to photographs I was taking forty years ago, stained steps that could have been submitted in court as a black-and-white People's Exhibit A for a circumstantial evidence conviction. So, I am meandering around the Marriott Waiohai looking for photographic trouble and spot the scene of a Lynch crime, suggested. I mean, the tag 127 documents  something sinful, or is it just a "reserved chaise lounge"? Look carefully, and you'll see my faint shadow on the grass, sans Adam Fedora (not in the shot, anyway). Turning the vinyl disc over to side B, I read (re-read) the Euro-English joke, and here I am on the floor, again, kicking my feet in the air, laughing. The mandate of language is to construct words with as many letters as practical to claim as much textual real estate as the market will bear, given the season and location. Just love the way French philosophers capitalize on the metaphor of abrasion and rupture. The next photographic assault? Finally, there's no need to actually stop (old school) drinking coffee when worldwide Starbuck's will offer the option of intravenous caffeination, or, no more needling, just munch the chocolate-covered roasted coffee beans.

You know, course, the NOAA Air Weather Service requires observers to report CONTRAIL in column 13, according to the Circular N. Large body of water. Round up the usual suspects.

Yes, collapsing shanty segues to Karlheinz Stockhausen, "oblique and pulsating," oh, yes. And, then comes the "the acoustical equivalent to a color field."  Gerhard Richter married sound with abstract painting in his 858, music by Bill Frisell. Some say that it's not music unless your ears bleed. I always liked Phil's notion of photographs with theme songs. Perhaps, there's a whole experimental genre here, even the short musical phrase that serves as counterpoint to the visual, like a still film. Ralph Gibson is into jazz guitar, even devoted one of his monographs to the guitar. Tangerine Dream sounds delicious, but I am thinking maybe just orchestrated sound effects from the school of Walter Murch. Can we move 2D image to 4D? You bring up some cool stuff, Klaus.

I did similar things in reproduction camera in the 80s for colorseparation for making dye transfer prints.
There are special kodak (and others) filters for color separation. Found their names in the depth of the www. But you have to test different exposure times for each color to get a good grey balance. With that method you should be able to make color photos with a Leica monochrome…
In layer mode in Photoshop you could switch on the desired colorchanel for each colorseparation. May be you must set the layer to blend mode multiply at least.

Thanks verwackelt. Yes, still a lot more experimentation needed. Will try blending and insuring that unnecessary colour channels are switched off. Computer is still broken so I'll have to wait some more. I read that Gimp has functions called decompose and recompose. Decompose creates 3 layers from the 3 colour channels of a normal rgb image and recompose puts the layers back together again. I'll analyse what characteristics the decomposed layers have and try and emulate that with my imported layers before recomposing. Perhaps this will work. Will read that photo.net thread thoroughly too! All the best,

Very refined. I'd like to see this and some more similar to this as book covers for nobly revised edtions of the works of Melville or Joseph Conrad 🙂
