Morning in Chambéry.  [Tri-X]

I really like the classic mood of this picture!

Well what does slightly out of focus matter when you have caught such a wonderful natural portrait on film? (though it doesn't seem very out of focus to me). Impressive metering too.

Thanks, Phil! I only noticed the missed focused during the final post processing in Lightroom. Once more I managed to set the focus on the ears, not on the eyes. Anyway, it is pure luck to get my son in such a natural way...

love these, James.  I really regret not be able to meet your family.  @stuny has one up on me now :)

I don't give up the hope to go with you on a photo walk, one day! I followed the thread of the One Challenge and am a bit envious, as it was a close miss.

At first glance I thought you took a picture of a van Gogh painting. Impressive result with this old expired stuff!

Rog, #  60534 is not available on my screen. I thought it was my i- Mac, but it also doesn't show on my tablet.  Only  a question mark. Question marks are ok, but that's not what you intended ?   K.

great colors,  I love these particular greens and blues.

Just got my book on J. Albers and will sink my teeth in it--to understand that "transparency" thing.  K.

I "edited" Tab Corner, evidently to another spectrum where Dave was trying to get HAL to open the pod bay door, and it just wasn't happening. Which Albers book did you get, Interaction of Color or Josef Albers: Interaction edited by Heinz Liesbrock? Of interest is also One and One Is Four: The Bauhaus Photocollages of Josef Albers and Josef Albers: Midnight and Noon.   Johannes Itten: The Art of Color, also.

Here's another Tab Transfer study:

Neil,

the good news is, the new strap does not influence the setting... 😀usually, when I go around with my old 500CM and the 80 Plannar, I simply set it on f8/125, in case of lowe light at f5,6/125, for ASA100-160 color film.

Andreas

PS: Since your are traveling in Japan, if time allows, pay a visit to Yodobashi or BICCamera shops in Tokyo, they keep still a nice range of 120 films (but much less than 20 years ago...)

Thanks a lot Andreas.

I will give it a bash when I get home.

Neil

I’ve just ordered a new strap for my Hassy 503CW, so along with the 40 odd roles of color and B&W 120 film I’m going to have another go at shooting 6x6.

Question.

When out shooting street style photography when it’s impossible to meter for each shot, how to you guess/meter a scene?

neil

Neil - I use a small handheld Sekonic light meter that can be tucked into any pocket, even a shirt pocket.  One press of the side button and you get a perfect incident exposure reading and you can adjust from there as you wish (I usually give a little extra exposure).

I have had zero luck with smart phone apps.  Rubbish IMHO.
