gbealnz Posted October 9, 2016 Share #22304 Posted October 9, 2016 Please forgive the woeful detritus on the slides, and the wildly ranging colours, but I'm just digitising as I find them at the moment. More Kimberleys and sailing for Dave, and some 1980' haircuts for J (Ektachrome 64, Kowa 6)... Gosh, your daughter is really going to enjoy that old Kowa mate. finarphin Posted October 9, 2016 Share #22311 Posted October 9, 2016 What is the other picture you wanted to compare to? fourth one. Leica IIIf with Portra 400 scanned. I'm not sure which lens, but I think it's 50mm Summicron collapsible. Welcome, dear visitor! Although it's the same model and same location, the season has something to do with the look of the image, as in summer there was more bounce light from a white wall, a brown fence, and a green tree.
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! gbealnz Posted October 9, 2016 Share #22312 Posted October 9, 2016 Not sure what the desired effect is here finarphin, they all look good to me. Yes, I know the Doc will see otherwise, but I am a firm believer in whatever you like, just do it. The Sony is a nice sensor, whether you "get" digital or not, and Portra is a fine film. Differing lenses, and season/time doesn't help as well, but as I said, I'd be happy with any/all of them. Gary
finarphin Posted October 9, 2016 Share #22313 Posted October 9, 2016 Sometimes Fuji Velvia 50 as Adam uses currently has also nice color In fact all color films have beautiful colors , each new film is a new sensor Italian Alpes Fuji Velvia 50 MP-90 A Cron Asph Image7alpeskodacfeclfhtrl+++-Mod2rl-1000tc.jpg Henry I know where this is -- been there. Taken from the Aiguille du Midi, toward the Grandes Jorasses and Dent du Geant. Nice shot.

MT0227 Posted October 10, 2016 Share #22315 Posted October 10, 2016 The second for me, I like the way shadows are being rendered. I think the first has a tad more contrast, eg.the tree in the upper right of the frame. The second.... velvia vs ektar-2.jpg
A miller Posted October 10, 2016 Share #22316 Posted October 10, 2016 Thanks, Henry, Gary and Marc, for playing along. The first is the velvia 50 and the second is Ektar. I like the airy feel of the Ektar better but I like the reds in the velvia better... Adam I will say the first is Velvia Henry Second one for me Adam, no real reason, perhaps "just not as pastely". gbealnz Posted October 10, 2016 Share #22317 Posted October 10, 2016 We ARE nit-picking though, educational as it is, but like the series finarphin posted above, I've yet to see a shot that isn't very worthy. Great to compare though, and beneficial from a "what film works" point of view. All good information. Gary
