I don't know why, but it made me think of Ronnie Wood. I guess she reminded me of his latest fling.............but, now that I think of it, I think Ronnie's new babe is a bit younger than this one. :)

She reminded me of a scene out of the Brady Bunch ;).

Royal Enfield

Snap! I have an old (1974) Enfield 500 Bullet down in Australia, Philip. My recent trip to Mumbai was accompanied by the consistent 'doog-doog-doog' backing vocals of thousands of 'Oilfields' merrily making their way from A to B...

Terrific, shot Eoin. Does it still run, the Bullet?

While I was on vacation in Austria, this thread moved on too fast to keep up. Although I sneaked in here on a daily basis, I didn't find the time to comment. From the last contributions the ones from Helged left a deep impact - not only for the high quality pictures but also for the supporting informations on these shots. I also can't get enough of Adam's scenes of NYC, a never ending box of chocolate :) Henry's latest pictures have to be mentioned, too - I really love the winter shot with the nice flares! To all the others a big "THANKS" as a small excuse for my laziness!

Here is one from three years ago, lately rescanned and slightly cropped. Seen in Berlin:

Sincere thanks, James. We miss you when you are gone. But you always make up for it when you return :) This one is a very cool abstract, with the mysterious and randomly placed lone shoe adding some question marks :)

To add some fuel to the recent bike talk, I saw this Enfield version on display in Melbourne last year. I couldn't get a decent photo, though. I'm sharing it nevertheless...

...Terrific, shot Eoin. Does it still run, the Bullet?

Thanks, Philip. This one isn't mine (it's one of the countless thumpers idling around Mumbai), and it looks like it's brand new.

Mine does run, although I haven't used it in several years (sitting in the wrong Country). It will get a birthday one day, but I don't know when that will be.

The story of the Enfield is interesting. After many years basking in the wonders of English Engineering (being able to create oil by joining 2 pieces of metal together  ), the Redditch-based company started to supply the Empire's Armed Forces and Police services in India with the Bullet single. Because of the volume, Royal Enfield (as it was then) set-up a full production facility in Madras (now Chennai). When the Japanese brought motorcycling out of medieval feudalism, the Redditch Motherland went down the gurgler, and ceased operations. India, however, kept on keeping on, and sculpted 1,000's more single wonders, under the name 'Enfield'. They were not copies - they just never shutdown.

Out of that, Enfield (India) continued to be a viable business, eventually exporting, and in the last decade or two, bringing out new models (such as the one I photographed above).

Many Indians are proud of the Enfield, and rightly so - They achieved what the British motorcycle industry couldn't, finding sustainability through the onslaught of modernity.

Here endeth the lesson...
