Let's hope Dr. Henry makes it back. His departure was a sudden and a sad loss. Personally I liked his eccentricities when it came to his love of film and the comparisons he made with digital; it often brought a smile to my face.

It's up to you, Dr H !

Yes, Steve, the Doc is the heart and soul of this thread, and his passion for film is palpable. Hopefully he'll be back - sooner rather than later.

Phil,

It also illustrates the qualities of the photographer that took this picture (as you know, chance favours the prepared mind), and perhaps the qualities of photography per se., enscribing a moment in time, the visible and invisible, onto silver suspended in gelatine, for all the world to see thereafter

Rgds

Christoph

Thank you sincerely, Christoph. Photography really is a wonderful tool for looking at and understanding a little more about the world. Without moments so inscribed as you point out, the world is largely a blur of motion - a few images will remain with us, but the nuances, the fleeting moments and the seemingly insignificant will often be lost in the flow. Being able to look at (in the case of this picture) the expressions on these young people brings me a sense of joy that I wouldn't have without the picture. In this instance, with this picture, it is of course personal to me and my memory, but if a photograph can communicate that sense of discovery and observation and a further sense - one of connection - with others, then you really have something. It's why people like Henri Cartier-Bresson, Mary Ellen Mark and Elliott Erwitt are such masters.

Photography is translated as "writing (or drawing) with light" and you'd have to go far and wide to find a better representation of that definition than this picture affords us. Sensational, Jean-Marc.

It's a lovely moment, a smile shared is a wonderful thing. :)  The dutch tilt really works with the framing too, great job!

I know Henry is a great fan of subtlety and nuance in photographs. It is the ephemeral nature of this couple's expressions that keep me coming back to this picture. It is purely by chance, really, that I caught these fleeting expressions but I think they illustrate the strength of the relationship and the trust between these two:

Very nice JM. I'm sure the horses were grateful for the untroubling snick of the Rollei shutter.

LOL. Looks like he's been firmly punk'd judging by where the pieces all are.

I missed why Henry is lost to us, is he travelling, or?

I'll hope he has a camera loaded with film with him, wherever he may be.

Different image, less cropping. After all the mediocre press I read on the Hektor, I have come to absolutely love this lens.
