It was a bribe. I buy the SnoBall, and my daughter allows a photograph.

........

This thread is proof positive of the relevance and validity of numerous film stock options in both warm and cool color situations...

The 'look' of film is an odd phrase that has become embedded in the film vs digital comparison over the past couple of decades. The 'look' is determined by a number of factors and using an appropriate emulsion for a given purpose is one of them. That was the primary reason for my posting the gunpowder store image.

Spend a few minutes comparing the M10 images thread with images posted here, the 'look' is a chalk and cheese comparison.

I'm surprised you didn't pick up on the character that the 50mm Elmar-M at full aperture has added to my gunpowder store image. Lenses are another defining factor in the 'look' of film and is sometimes lost with digital. That was my secondary reason for posting the image.

And the 50mm Elmar-M is an excellent lens indeed, with its very own signature.

Glad to see more pictures taken with it.

Honch,

I'll fully accept that I would be struggling to determine a lens used by looking at the image, and am in awe, absolute awe of those that can.

Film, slightly, I can tell (sometimes) Tri-X from Pan F, but Delta 400 vs Tri-X, nah, not a hope.

Digital/Film, same deal, some digital looks like film, and equally some film can look like digital.

I shoot both, and am happy, but appreciate others have a preference in one direction or the other.

Gary , not agree with you :) , I have both too , but don't use for 2 reasons :

-the color is "approximative" I call "distorsion" all brands confounded include Leica

I recognize immediatly

-secondly the structure is too much visible edges and lines hypersharp , not natural

not beautiful at all look at my poppies :)

and in addition the conversion digit color to b&w is not satisfying , lack of details

unhomogeneous in black and always this hypersharp side , too agressive when watching ,

like sound of CD for ears . All I said here I have proof for comparison. If I don't compare I cannot

say what I said. That's the difference with some people who not compare and affirm without

proof.

For me M digital only as back up (or not) but I don't use them except to compare !

I know I must sell them but my critical mind is back and I like to compare and I need them :)

That said you do as you like , no problem :)

Hi Henry,

I've actually had Hasselblads twice. I just didn't gel with the boxy shape. With the second one, I had a metering prism finder which was better, but it still didn't "move" me like other cameras (like Leicas) do. I have my wife's Rolleiflex that I can use (should do so more often) and I have a brilliant little Voigtlander Perkeo folding 6X6 from the '50s. Oh and a Mamiya 7ii with three lenses. So, much as I really loved the Hasselblad lenses (especially the 150mm and 65mm), I am happier now with the gear I have for my (decreasingly frequent) forays into medium format. 35mm format is king for me. Thanks a lot for being interested.

Look at the difference between these two pictures taken at the same time

look at jetline

Avaray

Nuclear plant at sunrise

March 2017

I posted above the film version but I post again here for your comparison

You said "distorsion" ? If you have only one camera you don't see this difference

You say it's beautiful color. Beautiful I agree both has a beautiful color

but the color is faithful in both ?

M8-Summicron 28 Asph (160 Isos) , 28mm lens  is like a 35mm in M8

open both at f/2

comment when I call that "distorsion"

These pictures are both uncorrected ! DNG>Jpeg Tiff>Jpeg

I'd forgotten this picture. Kodachrome - colour - what more is there to add?

BTW for those of you who read about my experiences with my scanner (Nikon Coolscan 9000) - it looks as though the tech at Camera Clinic whom John (Erl) recommended is able to fix it. I'll pick it up next week and will report back...

and with M9 Summilix 50 Asph taken at the same time (look at jetline)

we have that :) . We approach more of the film in this picture

One positive point for M9

I remind you M9 and M8 have Kodak CCD sensor

Avaray

Nuclear plant at sunrise

look again jetline

Useful to have 2 cameras to compare. That's why I want to keep my two digit cameras

My M9 had corrosion and Leica changed sensor 2 years ago !

Ha corrosion .... no corrosion with film  :)

Please excuse the dirty negatives, but Philip's recent sessions with extension tubes triggered me to have a try at using my MP-E65 lens on the EOS-1V HS. This is with Neopan Acros 100 @ ISO 50, with the first shot using an Otus 55 to show what the macro's were of. Lighting was poor (as were my attempts to focus), and exposure was guessed:
