It's a pain to correct anything lit by such lights because and they are literally e.v.e.r.y.w.h.e.r.e. at night. I much prefer Provia 400 for night photography but I didn't have any with me. What pissed me off though with a few of the rolls I shot in Georgia is that there's a strange repeated pattern with weird "squares" in the dark sky areas. It's not visible when the sky blacks are crushed to look the black that the sky was but if one lightens the black it will be there. I'm wondering if it could be the backing paper because it's not from the scanner.

Keith (M) Posted January 10, 2019 Share #57093 Posted January 10, 2019 Haven't had chance to browse the thread for a while - so apologies for lack of input. So many super images being uploaded! Anyway, yesterday afternoon my Hasselblad 500C (with 80mm Planar & yellow/green filter) saw the light of day for the first time in ten months or so. Went for a stroll around a local country park armed with one magazine loaded with Tri-X and one with Fomapan 100. I set off with the Tri-X but with my Sekonic meter inadvertently set for the Fomapan - doh! Realised my blunder when I swapped magazine and feared the worst for the Tri-X as they were two stops underexposed, so repeated some of the shots with the Fomapan on my return route. Of course by then the light was fading and I was having to use larger apertures and slower shutter speeds than I otherwise would have liked. Developed both films this morning and the Tri-X shots (with development reduced to seven minutes (Rodinal 1:50)) turned out not too bad at all - to my relief! These two frames are a Tri-X - Fomapan 100 comparison. Welcome, dear visitor! It took a while to find the negative, then it needed a wash, but here it is. My observation is that, while it is possible for a reasonable wet printer and an OK photoshopper to get something that looks pretty similar (keeping in mind that the 4000dpi TIF looks much better than this compressed jpeg), the wet print wins every time. Sure I can eke more tones and shadow/highlight detail out of the negative in photoshop, but the "feel" of the print just can't be emulated digitally: Tidal River 2000 Nikon N8008s, AF-Nikkor 80-200 f2.8 IF-ED, Agfapan 25 Phil, I know exactly what you mean. Both, in terms of the wet print as well as in respect to Agfapan 25 (There are a few emulsions worth resurrecting...). And the picture is spectacular, well done. 1
