Northwest Wanderer Posted May 31, 2013 Author Share #4 Posted May 31, 2013 (edited) Thank you Karl & Stuart. I've been trying to photograph my horses in the soft light of morning. Soft lighting seems to transform the image and gives the horses a gentle look. Edited May 31, 2013 by Northwest Wanderer

Karl G Posted May 31, 2013 Share #7 Posted May 31, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was going to say she was a nice looking Arabian but didn't for fear of appearing stupid. Looks like I was at least 1/2 right and she has a ver Arabian looking profile.
Northwest Wanderer Posted May 31, 2013 Author Share #8 Posted May 31, 2013 Karl. Sage is a fine looking horse. Half Arabian and half Quarter horse. I can understand your thinking full Arabian. He does have their classic look.
A miller Posted May 31, 2013 Share #9 Posted May 31, 2013 Hi Bill - this is such a fantstic portrait. I especially love how the pastel green tones on the bottom melt into pastel blue tones in the background. Really nice. May I ask if this was shot with film and if so which kind? Northwest Wanderer Posted May 31, 2013 Author Share #10 Posted May 31, 2013 Adam, the picture was taken with a V-LUX4. f/2.8, 1/250sec, 73mm Glad you like the image. I've been using early morning fog to help add softness to the backgrounds.
A miller Posted May 31, 2013 Share #11 Posted May 31, 2013 Thanks, Bill. I absolutely love the colors in the picture. It is so pleasing and lovely to stare at. If my young daughter ever enters a pony phase I may have to look you up for this
Northwest Wanderer Posted May 31, 2013 Author Share #12 Posted May 31, 2013 You're welcome Adam. I'll give old Sage an extra scoop of grain tonight for giving me an image that is really liked.
platypus Posted June 1, 2013 Share #13 Posted June 1, 2013 Bill, Lovely shot! Sage is what we (over here) refer to as a 'flea bitten' grey.... no insult intended. There is also an old saying around here that goes: 'if you have a good grey horse you'll never have a better horse'. I must say I agree with that one as all the greys I've known have been quite special, tough, loyal, intelligent and affectionate. I bet Sage has all those qualities and more. Dee. Thanks Dee, We use the same term here also. Salt & pepper is another term. I've had him since he was a colt. He does have all the qualities you mentioned. I gentled (broke) him for riding myself. I could tell he was going to be an easy horse to work with. He is by far the most fun horse I've ever had.
pauledell Posted June 1, 2013 Share #15 Posted June 1, 2013 Bill, A wonderful picture. Simple and yet strong with the lighting striking the horse's face, little distracting background and the sharpness. A handsome horse indeed. Paul
Northwest Wanderer Posted June 1, 2013 Author Share #16 Posted June 1, 2013 Thanks Paul, Having one of our horses die last fall, I'm trying to take images of our last two horses so when they're gone I'll have images to add to the memories.
