Advertisement Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Hi msap7222, Take a look here Famous Wetzlar Street Photograph by Mr Barnack - where is it?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted May 26, 2013 Share #2 Posted May 26, 2013 It's right in the town centre. You can't miss it.
msap7222 Posted May 26, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted May 26, 2013 Well I must have missed it! ;-) My GPS took me to the town centre (as Tom Tom sees it) but I did not see this building. If anyone has a cross roads or street address I can just plug it into my GPS. I'm not a native of DE and have a meeting at Solms tomorrow am at 10, so I haven't much time. Thanks in advance! andybarton Posted May 26, 2013 Share #4 Posted May 26, 2013 (edited) It's in a pedestrain zone, from memory, so your sat nav may not work. The building is at the end of Eisenmarkt https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=wetzlar+eisenmarkt&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&client=safari Edited May 26, 2013 by andybarton

pedaes Posted May 26, 2013 Share #6 Posted May 26, 2013 It is of course in the old town, across the river from the factory. The main building is now a very good cafe.
msap7222 Posted May 27, 2013 Author Share #7 Posted May 27, 2013 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Cool - mission accomplished - plus a personalised factory tour in Solms followed by lunch with one of the great Leica guys, Rene who introduced me to Stefan Daniel. Also, saw a $2M dollar custom built lens (made for King of Brunei?) to take close ups of "his falcons" as they fly. Only 3 of these lenses in existence - one for the King, one as a backup in the safe at Solms and the one pictured here. A big day, leaving Frankfurt now, landing in Uganda tomorrow! wda Posted May 27, 2013 Share #8 Posted May 27, 2013 That is some lens, but happily, not one I would buy1 It is great to see just what Leica can do in these constrained times.
pedaes Posted May 27, 2013 Share #9 Posted May 27, 2013 It is great to see just what Leica can do in these constrained times. I don't think it is very new - it is on display in the reception area at the Solm's plant.
ho_co Posted May 27, 2013 Share #10 Posted May 27, 2013 I think that's the same lens as shown at Leica the most expensive lens in the world | Leica News & Rumors back in December 2008. Unfortunately, there's little information on it there except that it's a 1600mm f/5.6.

Overgaard Posted June 2, 2013 Share #12 Posted June 2, 2013 It's in a warehouse outside Doha in Qatar together with a rare collections of photographs for a museum to come one day. We were supposed to use it in February when I was in Qatar but never made it to do it.
