Grand Canyon - selection of strange colors

Recommended Posts

These are the first pictures from our visit in April to the Great Canyon.

I am still busy processing the other half of my 2.000 shots from NYC,Las Vegas,Grand Canyon and Valley of Fire. I will post more if you like.

My MKII was mounted mostly with Elmarit 60mm+2xApo Converter, the X1 had also a very busy time.

The MKII was tweaked down to 50 ISO, polarizer and tripod (for the early morning and evening shots.)

The shots were all taken from the Rimtrail.

These are VERY nice. You have captured the colors and depth of a magnificent natural wonder well. I wish I was there, Jim

Jim,

many thanks. And I wish, we could have stay there longer. 2 days are not enough. We covered a lot but are planning to go back there, of course.

Michael,

thanks for sharing the sight, I am happy you liked them.

Karl,

many thanks. The atmosphere there is breathtaking. I'll post more.

Iduna,

A wonderful series. As you have said, much more time is needed to photograph the real beauty. Generally speaking, the best color is found in the early morning or late afternoon when the sun is lower. Location is also important, North vs South rim. I like each of yours but find the second picture with the bright orange colors against the dark floor of the canyon extremely striking.

Iduna,

Love these pictures. The last one really does it for me. Been there many times and the last image captures the emotions the canyon bring out in me. That's what good photography can do. Lovely series.

A wonderful set, and Barbara agrees with me. Our favorite is the last.

Paul,

thank you o much for your encouraging review. No 2 is also among my favourites from the aspect of lighting. I'll post more. We kept ourselves busy with clicking through the day and found many places breathtaking. Next time we'll not follow the general advice for sunrise and sunset points but will take the opposite places to have ths sunlight in the back and watching the valley being illuminated by and by.

Bill,

thanks for your time and letting me know your feelings. This is what makes me happy being a photographer.

Stuart,

many thanks for sharing your time and discussing the series with Barbara. Even if it semmes to be a simple shot you may guess it took some time in processing to get the background right and the colours and clarity balanced.

Hi, seriously thinking of getting a Q-P, how do the colors compare with say the X1 or the M-P240 ?

I'm new here and while attempting to make my first post I was surprised to find that the main thread for street photos contains black and white photographs, exclusively (the thread is even tagged "mono"), and the street photo I want to share is a color shot, so instead of sheepishly going away, I've started this topic.  I don't know if there is value in keeping the color street photography separate from the monochrome, I'll let the moderators decide that.  But currently the only thread of any importance in the entire street photography forum containing color pictures that I could find are all photos taken at beaches, so I hope others find this topic as useful and necessary as I do and post in it.  I'll go first.

She was obviously high, which is why I followed her, and after I made this shot I asked her with a smile if she was tripping. "Yeah, tripping balls!" she answered and then did a pirouette and dashed off into Target before I could say another word.

this picture stressed me a lot...  I missed the blue hour and there have been millions of people on the street and in front of the building. So, considering the circumstances... I'm still quite happy with the result.

I've made a package of the presets I mostly use for Leica to adjust colors, make black and white, etc. These handles the skin tones, the correction of CMOS to CCD colors, the 'right' black and white look for M10, SL, TL, etc.

These are the ones people usually ask for, so I have made it a free download. Enjoy!
