edwardkaraa Posted May 22, 2013 Share #1 Posted May 22, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I have a question regarding these 2 lenses but let me explain the context first. I am in the process of reducing my lens kit to just 4 lenses for practical reasons. So the lens which is the least used, my ZM 18 will have to go. I really didn't use it more than two times in the last and only year of ownership. Now to my question: I already own the ZM 25 and love its rendering, and on the M9, I rarely get any color shift issues. I do not use corner fix or any other correction software, so that is certainly a big advantage. However, I thought to replace both ZM 18 and 25 with the middle FL, the ZM 21. I have 2 concerns, first is the the color shift. I understand it is more problematic on the 21, is this correct? Second, I'm afraid the 21 is not as sharp as the 25. Looking at MTF, the 21 seems equally as good, a bit better in the center and a bit weaker in the corners, but practically it should be very close. However, I have read many user opinions preferring the 25 for many reasons. What do you guys think? Can you please let me know your experience with these 2 lenses? Thanks! TomB_tx Posted May 22, 2013 Share #2 Posted May 22, 2013 The ZM 21 f4.5 is known to be quite bad for color shift on the M9, but the ZM 21 2.8 is fine with the right coding.
edwardkaraa Posted May 22, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted May 22, 2013 Thank you Tom! I forgot to specify it is the 2.8/21 that I am considering.
250swb Posted May 22, 2013 Share #4 Posted May 22, 2013 The ZM 21mm 2.8 is the one to have, the other does cause 'red edge'. No grumbles about sharpness. Steve
