pauledell Posted May 21, 2013 Share #2 Posted May 21, 2013 Larry, I like the scale between the Catamaran and the crew, The great colors and the sharpness. If you think that has lots of logos, check out the NASCAR race cars.. Paul

Karl G Posted May 21, 2013 Share #4 Posted May 21, 2013 Love the picture and truly logo land. Some of us sailors have grown completely turned off by the corporate sponsored and changes in rules for what used to be 12 meter yacht racing.
stuny Posted May 22, 2013 Share #5 Posted May 22, 2013 Larry - Terrific. BTW: This year there are only four boats entered in the Americas Cup Race, all four being these hugely expensive cats. The expense and the futility of sailing a single hulled vessel have terribly limited the field. One was wrecked not far from this shot. Perhaps they'll repair it in time for the race.
likalar Posted May 22, 2013 Author Share #6 Posted May 22, 2013 Yes, just 4 teams. Team Artemis’s AC72 broke apart several days ago, killing sailor Andrew Simpson. Now the Italian team, Luna Rosso, owned by Prada's Patrizio Bertelli, is making demands to lower the wind speed limits on race days, in the interest of safety. The boats are very light, and extremely fast. With hydrofoils installed, upper 40s speeds are attained, and racers expect to see 50mph. Oracle's identical AC72 (72 feet long) broke apart in practice several months ago. The new designs were intended to invigorate the America's Cup. Thay have done that, at great expense. NPR writer Scott Neuman, quotes Anthony Sandberg, a sailor with local knowledge: "Fundamentally, you just have an incredible dance,....like an elephant dancing on the head of a pin, I just think it's pretty amazing. At 40 miles an hour — and they can even go to 50 [mph]. We don't know the limits of how fast they can go. I've described these boats as Indy cars without brakes," he says. "You really can't stop them." Interesting America's Cup, for sure. Larry
Bill Allsopp Posted May 22, 2013 Share #7 Posted May 22, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) It's a formula 1 boat with formula 1 sponsorship ads. The crash hats show how seriously extreme this is. Super pic Larry.
